Chapter 1 - The Wedding That Should Have Ended“Who dared to lay a hand on you?”

The question cut through the wedding hall like a gunshot.

Every conversation died instantly.

At the altar stood Alexander Vale, heir to one of the most powerful families in the city, his expensive black tuxedo immaculate except for the streak of blood at the corner of his mouth.

Across from him stood the bride.

Clara Whitmore.

Her veil was slightly crooked. One delicate pearl earring hung lower than the other. A thin line of blood disappeared beneath the lace near her collarbone.

Her father stared at her bruised cheek.

Then he looked at Alexander.

The silence became unbearable.

Alexander slowly touched his split lip and laughed.

“Oh, save the drama,” he said. “I was just teaching her how things will work after the vows.”

A murmur traveled through the guests.

Clara’s father, Jonathan Whitmore, did not move.

He was a disciplined man, famous for keeping his emotions buried beneath layers of polished restraint.

But when he saw the purple fingerprints around his daughter’s wrist, something in him broke.

Alexander smiled.

He thought Jonathan would tolerate anything.

The merger between the Vale and Whitmore empires was worth hundreds of millions. Their families had spent months negotiating it. The wedding was not merely a marriage.

It was an alliance.

Alexander believed money had made him untouchable.

He was wrong.

Jonathan stepped forward.

Alexander’s smile faded.

Then the punch landed.

The crack of bone against bone echoed beneath the crystal chandeliers.

Alexander flew backward into a table, sending champagne glasses crashing across the marble floor.

Guests screamed.

Someone dropped a phone.

The minister froze beside the altar.

Jonathan stood there breathing heavily, his fist trembling.

“You touched my daughter,” he said quietly.

Alexander wiped blood from his mouth.

“You’ve just destroyed everything.”

“No,” Jonathan answered.

He looked at Clara.

“You did.”

For the first time that night, Alexander noticed something strange.

Clara was not crying.

She was staring at him.

Not with fear.

With calculation.

She slowly reached up and straightened her veil.

Then she turned toward the minister.

“Please continue.”

The minister blinked.

“What?”

“The ceremony.”

Alexander actually laughed.

“You’re serious?”

Clara looked at him.

“Yes.”

His expression changed.

“You want to marry me after this?”

She held his gaze.

“You've already shown everyone what you are.”

Alexander leaned closer.

“And you still want to say I do?”

Clara whispered so softly that only he could hear.

“That is exactly why I have to.”

His smile disappeared.

Something cold moved through his chest.

The minister reluctantly continued.

The guests exchanged confused glances.

Jonathan looked like he wanted to stop everything.

But Clara shook her head.

Not yet.

The vows began.

Alexander spoke first.

Clara repeated every word.

When the minister asked whether she accepted Alexander as her husband, the hall became painfully quiet.

Clara lifted her eyes.

“Yes.”

Alexander smiled again.

He thought he had won.

Then Clara leaned toward him.

“Congratulations,” she whispered.

“On what?”

“Your first mistake.”

The rings were exchanged.

The applause sounded weak.

And while everyone stared at the newlyweds, Clara slipped a tiny black device from beneath the folds of her dress.

A recording light blinked once.

She had captured every word Alexander had spoken.

Every threat.

Every confession.

Every cruel joke.

But that wasn't why she had married him.

The recording was only the beginning.

Because three days before the wedding, Clara had discovered something far worse than Alexander’s violence.

She had discovered that her father’s company had not been nearly as successful as everyone believed.

Someone had been stealing from it.

Hundreds of millions.

And every trail led directly to the Vale family.

Including Alexander.

Including the man standing beside her now.

And, most frightening of all...

Including someone inside her own home.

The minister pronounced them husband and wife.

Alexander kissed her.

His hand closed painfully around her waist.

The crowd applauded.

Clara smiled.

But beneath her veil, her eyes were cold.

She had not just married the man who hurt her.

May you like

She had walked willingly into the enemy’s fortress.

And she intended to burn it down from the inside.
