Alora looked up.
"Choose what?"
Damian couldn't answer.
Elena did.
"Whether the First Alpha lives."
Silence.

Damian looked at Alora.

She nodded.
"You are the key."
"To imprison him?"
"Or release him."
A horn sounded.
Thousands of Moonbound approached.
Damian's warriors formed defensive lines.
Then Kael arrived.
He stood on the ridge.
Finn was in his arms.
Damian's wolf nearly broke free.
"LET HIM GO!"
Kael smiled.
"You want your son?"
"Yes."
"Then bring me Alora."
Damian stepped forward.
"No."
Kael tilted Finn toward the edge.
Damian froze.
Alora grabbed his arm.
"Don't."
Kael smiled.
"Your mate knows what sacrifice means."
He looked at Elena.
"You taught her well."
Elena stepped forward.
"Release the child."
"You first."
Elena looked at Alora.
Then whispered:
"I'm sorry."
She turned and ran toward Kael.
Damian shouted.
"Elena!"
Kael caught her.
He placed his hand over her chest.
"You were always the key."
Then he tore out her life force.
Alora screamed.
Her mother collapsed.
The mountains shook.
A crack split the temple.
Finn screamed.
Wren began glowing.
Damian saw the Moon Door open.
Something enormous moved behind it.
Kael laughed.
"Finally."
The First Alpha emerged.
His eyes opened.
Then he looked at Alora.
And whispered:
"Mate."
Alora's stomach suddenly tightened.
She dropped to her knees.
The unborn child inside her began kicking violently.
