Chapter 10 - The Moonbound ArmyThousands of wolves woke beneath the mountains. The night sky turned silver.

Across the kingdom, wolves lifted their heads at the same time.

Then they howled.

Not one pack.

Hundreds.

Thousands.

The Moonbound had awakened.

Damian stood on the northern tower and watched the mountains.

A sea of eyes appeared in the darkness.

The ancient army was moving.

Toward Voss territory.

Alora stood beside him.

"What do we do?"

"We fight."

Elena shook her head.

"That won't work."

Damian turned.

"They have numbers."

"They have something worse."

She pointed toward the mountain.

"Kael controls them."

Damian remembered Finn.

His son could do the same one day.

Perhaps already could.

A healer rushed toward them.

"The pups."

Damian ran.

Wren's room was empty.

Again.

His heart stopped.

Then he heard laughter.

Wren was in Alora's mother's arms.

"I took her before the soldiers arrived."

Alora hugged the pup.

"Where's Finn?"

Nobody answered.

Damian knew.

Kael had him.

Again.

Then a voice appeared inside his head.

A child's voice.

"Father."

Damian froze.

Finn.

"Finn?"

The pup spoke again.

"Don't come."

Damian nearly collapsed.

Alora heard his voice.

"What happened?"

"He can communicate."

Elena closed her eyes.

"Kael forced him to awaken."

Damian's fists clenched.

"Can you hear me, son?"

"Yes."

"Where are you?"

"Under the mountain."

"Are you hurt?"

A pause.

"Not yet."

Damian's blood ran cold.

"Stay hidden."

"I can't."

"Why?"

"Uncle says I need to open the door."

"What door?"

Finn began crying.

"The Moon Door."

Damian looked at Elena.

She had gone pale.

"What's behind it?"

"The first Alpha."

Damian stared.

"That's a myth."

"No."

Elena shook her head.

"Your ancestor didn't die."

"What?"

"He was sealed."

A terrible silence followed.

"Why?"

"Because he became something no wolf could control."

Damian's wolf whispered inside him.

The First Beast.

Elena continued.

"The Moonbound weren't created to serve him."

"They were created to imprison him."

Alora understood.

"Kael isn't trying to conquer the kingdom."

"No."

"He wants to release him."

Elena nodded.

The mountain shook.

A crack split the eastern sky.

Finn screamed through the bond.

"Father!"

Damian grabbed Alora.

"What happened?"

Finn cried:

"He's waking up!"

Then another voice entered Damian's mind.

Deep.

Ancient.

Not wolf.

Not human.

Alpha King.

Damian froze.

Bring me my mate.

Alora's eyes widened.

"What did you hear?"

Damian looked at her.

And for the first time since becoming Alpha King...

he was terrified.

May you like

The ancient creature had spoken.

And it had called Alora its mate.
