CHAPTER 10: THE WOMAN WHO CONTROLLED THE ENTIRE GAME

The ballroom screens continued glowing.

Nobody spoke.

Nobody moved.

Every guest at the Beverly Hills gala was watching the same thing.

A live broadcast.

A carefully prepared announcement.

And standing beneath the golden lights of the main stage was Victoria Hart.

My aunt.

The woman who had admitted she buried the truth.

The woman who had spent twenty years controlling the Hart family’s story.

She looked flawless.

Perfect makeup.

Perfect dress.

Perfect posture.

The same image she had always shown the world.

But now I saw something different.

Not confidence.

Calculation.

Victoria smiled into the camera.

“Tonight is a historic night for Hart Jewelry.”

Her voice echoed through the building.

“A night when the world will finally learn the truth about the Hart legacy.”

My stomach tightened.

Because I knew something.

People who truly had nothing to hide...

Did not announce the truth like a performance.

They simply revealed it.

Victoria wasn’t revealing anything.

She was creating a story.

A story where she was the hero.

Richard stared at the screen.

His face had lost all color.

“She’s doing it.”

Vanessa looked at him.

“Doing what?”

Richard’s jaw tightened.

“Taking control before anyone else can.”

I looked at Isabella.

My mother.

She stood silently beside me.

Twenty years of separation between us.

Twenty years of questions.

And yet...

The first thing she did when she saw me was not hug me.

Not explain why she left.

Not apologize.

She warned me.

About the necklace.

About the danger.

About the person inside the building.

And now I understood why.

Because my family’s war had never ended.

It had only moved into the shadows.

On the screen, Victoria continued.

“For decades, people have misunderstood the Hart family.”

She paused dramatically.

“But tonight, we correct the mistakes of the past.”

A picture appeared behind her.

My grandmother.

Eleanor Hart.

Then another picture.

Vanessa.

The crowd whispered.

Victoria smiled.

“My daughter Vanessa Hart has always been the true representative of this family.”

Vanessa froze.

“What?”

Everyone turned toward her.

Victoria continued.

“She has carried this company through difficult years.”

Richard looked furious.

“She’s using her.”

I looked at Vanessa.

For once, she looked lost.

Not because she was losing power.

Because she realized her own mother had never seen her as a daughter.

Only a tool.

Victoria continued speaking.

“Unfortunately, there are people who want to destroy this legacy.”

The screen changed.

A photograph appeared.

My father.

Alexander.

Then documents.

Fake documents.

The same accusations from twenty years ago.

Fraud.

Betrayal.

Theft.

My hands tightened.

“She’s rewriting history.”

Mr. Bellamy whispered.

Victoria looked directly into the camera.

“Alexander Vale betrayed Hart Jewelry.”

The entire room went silent.

“No.”

The word came from Richard.

But it was too late.

The lie had already reached thousands of viewers.

Victoria continued.

“And now, his daughter has returned to claim something she never earned.”

The screen changed again.

My photograph appeared.

A picture taken from my workshop.

A picture of me working quietly.

A picture designed to make me look small.

Unknown.

Unimportant.

The crowd began whispering.

Victoria’s voice became colder.

“She was never trained as a business leader.”

“She was never prepared to manage an empire.”

“She was simply someone Eleanor protected because of guilt.”

My face burned.

But before I could respond...

Isabella stepped forward.

“No.”

Her voice cut through the room.

Everyone turned.

Victoria stopped.

For the first time...

Her perfect expression cracked.

Because she recognized the voice.

“Isabella.”

My mother looked at the screen.

“You still lie beautifully.”

The room exploded.

Guests gasped.

Reporters lifted their cameras.

Phones appeared everywhere.

Because the woman who had disappeared for twenty years...

Had just appeared alive.

Victoria stared.

For several seconds, she said nothing.

Then she smiled.

A dangerous smile.

“So.”

She looked at Isabella.

“The ghost finally decided to return.”

My heart tightened.

“You knew she was alive?”

I looked at Victoria.

Her silence answered.

“You knew.”

Victoria looked at me.

“Yes.”

The honesty shocked everyone.

“She was alive.”

My voice shook.

“Then why did everyone say she disappeared?”

Victoria’s eyes moved to me.

“Because sometimes the truth is more dangerous than a lie.”

I stepped closer.

“No.”

My voice became stronger.

“You made her disappear.”

Victoria didn’t deny it.

Instead, she looked at Isabella.

“You should have stayed hidden.”

Isabella’s expression hardened.

“I stayed hidden because I wanted my daughter to survive.”

Victoria laughed.

“Survive?”

She looked around.

“Look at what happened.”

Her eyes landed on me.

“She found the necklace.”

A pause.

“She found the documents.”

Another pause.

“And now she knows everything.”

Victoria smiled.

“Exactly what I was afraid of.”

The room became silent.

I felt everyone watching me.

“What are you afraid of?”

Victoria looked at the necklace.

Then she said:

“The truth inside that diamond.”

My heart stopped.

Because everyone had been talking about the hidden mark.

The ownership proof.

But nobody had explained what it actually contained.

Victoria looked at the crowd.

“The pink diamond is not just a family treasure.”

She raised her voice.

“It contains evidence.”

A murmur spread.

“Evidence that can destroy powerful people.”

She looked at me.

“And she has it.”

Security began moving.

Not toward Victoria.

Toward me.

My blood ran cold.

“What are you doing?”

One guard stepped forward.

“Miss Hart, we need you to come with us.”

Mr. Bellamy immediately moved.

“No.”

The guard looked uncomfortable.

“I’m sorry, sir. We have orders.”

Orders.

From who?

I looked toward Victoria.

She was still smiling.

Because this was her plan.

She didn’t need to destroy me.

She only needed to make the world believe I was dangerous.

Then nobody would listen.

As security approached, Vanessa suddenly stepped in front of me.

Everyone froze.

Including me.

Vanessa looked at the guards.

“She’s not going anywhere.”

The guard frowned.

“Ms. Hart, please move.”

Vanessa shook her head.

“No.”

For the first time in twenty years...

Vanessa chose my side.

She turned toward Victoria on the screen.

And said something that made the entire room go silent.

“Mother…”

Her voice trembled.

“You spent my entire life telling me she was the enemy.”

A pause.

“But the truth is…”

She looked at me.

“She was the only person you were afraid of.”

Victoria’s smile disappeared.

Vanessa continued:

“Because she is the one person who can expose what you did.”

The lights suddenly flickered.

Again.

Everyone looked upward.

Then every screen in the ballroom changed.

Not Victoria’s broadcast.

Something else.

A video.

An old recording.

A woman’s voice.

My grandmother.

Eleanor Hart.

And her first words were:

“If you are watching this…”

The entire room froze.

“Then Victoria has already tried to take everything.”

Victoria’s face turned pale.

Because she knew.

She knew what was coming.

My grandmother’s voice continued.

“And there is one thing I need everyone to understand.”

A pause.

“The true heir of Hart Jewelry…”

The screen zoomed in.

On me.

“…was never chosen because of blood.”

Silence.

“She was chosen because she was the only one who refused to become like them.”

Everyone stared.

Then my grandmother said the sentence that destroyed Victoria’s entire plan:

“Because the person who betrayed Hart Jewelry…”

The video glitched.

The room held its breath.

Then the final words appeared.

“Was standing beside me the entire time.”

The screen went black.

And when the lights came back on...

Victoria was gone.

But she left something behind.

A message written on the stage.

Three words.

May you like

“Find Isabella’s killer.”
