Chapter 10 - The ArchiveThe storage locker contained six boxes.

Inside them were years of evidence.
Bank transfers.
Audio recordings.
Photographs.
Contracts.
Threats.
Medical reports.
My father's private recordings.
And one final video.
I played it.
My father appeared on screen.
Older.
Tired.
Terrified.
"If you're watching this, I'm already dead."
My chest tightened.
He looked directly into the camera.
"Michael, I need you to understand something."
He explained everything.
Evelyn had been secretly diverting family assets.
She worked with a development company.
Daniel had helped her.
Margaret, the secretary, discovered the fraud.
She disappeared because she agreed to cooperate with investigators.
My father had created the archive after realizing his own death might be staged.
Then came the final revelation.
"I did not leave the property to you merely because you are my son."
He paused.
"I left it to you because I know who you will protect."
My eyes burned.
"Your mother believes money is power."
He smiled sadly.
"She is wrong."
The video continued.
"Power is information."
The screen changed.
A map appeared.
Dozens of properties were marked.
Each one connected to shell companies.
At the center was our house.
But there was another marker.
The old municipal building.
The place where Lily had been held.
My father had hidden the address in the archive.
I called Harris.
"We found them."
Police surrounded the building before dawn.
The rescue team entered.
I stayed behind the perimeter.
Minutes passed.
Then a radio crackled.
"One child located."
I closed my eyes.
"Lily?"
"Yes."
I almost collapsed from relief.
Then another voice came through.
"We have a second person."
"Who?"
Silence.
Then:
"Clara."
My heart stopped.
"She was never at the hospital."
"What?"
The officer repeated.
"That's not your wife."
I couldn't breathe.

They had rescued Lily.
But the woman in the hospital bed was an impostor.
