Chapter 11 - The AgreementThe original succession agreement was hidden beneath the Ellison family library.

My father opened the vault himself.
Inside sat a single black box.
No security code.
No fingerprint lock.
Just an old brass key.
The same number as the archive.
He opened it.
Inside was a document wrapped in protective cloth.
I read the first page.
Then the second.
The final clause was simple.
Upon the death or incapacitation of the principal heir, control shall pass jointly to the surviving descendants of Marcus and Eleanor Ellison.
Vanessa stared.
“So we're both heirs.”
My father nodded.
“Together.”
She looked at me.
I couldn't decide whether to laugh or cry.
Our entire lives had been engineered around a lie.
Two sisters manipulated into becoming enemies.
Adrian's affair.
The forged emails.
The corporate attacks.
All of it had been part of a larger chain.
But there was another page.
My father unfolded it.
A handwritten addendum.
My mother's signature.
If my daughters are ever reunited, they must know the truth before they inherit anything.
Vanessa whispered:
“She knew.”
My father nodded.
“She believed you would find each other.”
“Why didn't you look for me?” Vanessa asked.
My father looked devastated.
“I was told you died.”
She started crying.
“You believed it?”
“I had evidence.”
Victor had forged it.
That man had spent years rewriting our lives.
Vanessa looked at me.
“I hate him.”
“So do I.”
She gave a broken laugh.
“That makes two of us.”
Then Ethan entered.
“There is one problem.”
I turned.
“What?”
“We found Adrian.”
“Where?”
“Outside the old Mercer research facility.”
My stomach tightened.
“Why?”
“He called us.”
I drove there with my father, Vanessa, and Ethan.
The facility had been abandoned for years.
Adrian stood inside the central laboratory.
Alone.
His suit was wrinkled.
His face exhausted.
He held an old videotape.
“I found this.”
He handed it to me.
“Your mother recorded it.”
We watched.
My mother appeared again.
She looked frightened.
“Claire, Vanessa.”
She paused.
“If you're watching this together, then someone failed to keep you apart.”
I looked at Vanessa.
My mother continued.
“There is one final truth.”
The video changed.
She stood beside a laboratory reactor.
“We never lost the technology.”
I frowned.
“What?”
“The patent wasn't stolen.”
My father stared at the screen.
My mother's expression hardened.
“It was hidden.”
The screen switched to a blueprint.
A complete technological design.
Far more advanced than anything Mercer Dynamics had ever produced.
She continued.
“Richard wanted to commercialize it before it was safe.”
“And Marcus refused.”
My mother nodded.
“If that research falls into the wrong hands, entire industries could become dependent on one corporation.”
The recording ended.
Adrian looked at us.
“I knew my grandfather was ambitious.”
He swallowed.
“I never knew this.”
Vanessa stepped toward him.
“You still hurt Claire.”
“I know.”
“You almost destroyed her.”
“I know.”
She slapped him.
The sound echoed through the empty lab.
Then she walked away.
Adrian looked at me.
“I deserve that.”
“Yes.”
He nodded.
“I want to help.”
I crossed my arms.
“Why?”
“Because I finally understand.”
“What?”
He looked at the blueprint.
“My grandfather didn't build Mercer Dynamics for profit.”
He pointed toward the reactor chamber.
“He built it to control the technology.”
My father stepped forward.
“And someone else wants to control it now.”
Adrian nodded.
“I think I know where the original prototype is.”
Everyone turned toward him.
“Where?”
May you like
He whispered:
“Under Mercer House.”
