Chapter 13 - The Trap Inside the VaultNolan turned toward the door.

Locked.
He fired.
The bullet bounced from the steel.
"Open it!"
Nobody answered.
Salvatore smiled.
"You're trapped."
Nolan grabbed Isabella.
She elbowed him.
Salvatore rushed forward.
A brutal struggle erupted.
Matteo tackled Nolan.
Isabella fell.
Salvatore pulled Ella behind him.
Outside, armed men pounded against the vault.
The red alarm continued.
Nolan fought like a cornered animal.
Matteo slammed him into the wall.
"You should have stayed gone."
Nolan spit blood.
"You don't know who you're fighting."
Matteo said:
"We know exactly who."
Nolan laughed.
"You think the people outside are my people?"
Salvatore paused.
Nolan smiled.
"They're yours."
Salvatore looked through the reinforced glass.
His own men were standing there.
But beside them were strangers.
Dozens of them.
Men and women from the names in the ledger.
The network had arrived.
The vault wasn't simply a hiding place.
It was a meeting point.
And every person who mattered was now trapped inside the same estate.
Nolan looked at Salvatore.
"You have no idea how high this goes."
Salvatore answered:
"I don't need to."
He pointed to the journal.
"You wrote your own name into the evidence."
Nolan's expression changed.
"What?"
Salvatore held up the page.
"Your signature."
Nolan stared.
Impossible.
But there it was.
A confirmation beneath a transfer.
His handwriting.
His seal.
His signature.
Nolan backed away.
"Someone forged it."
"Then we'll let the truth decide."
Salvatore took out his phone.
He had begun recording.
Nolan realized.
"Turn that off."
"No."
"You don't understand."
"Try me."
Nolan suddenly laughed.
"You really think the law can touch these people?"
Salvatore looked at the faces outside.
"No."
He glanced at Matteo.
"That's why we're not giving them the law."
Matteo nodded.
They opened the vault's public broadcast system.
Every screen in the estate flickered on.
The files began uploading.
Names.
Accounts.
Photographs.
Transactions.
Every secret.
The people outside started shouting.
Panic spread.
Nolan lunged toward the controls.
Salvatore stopped him.
Nolan stared at him.
"You'll destroy everything."
Salvatore answered:
"That's the point."
A final document appeared on the screen.
The original family succession order.
It named Ella as the legal heir to a hidden trust.
Not to the criminal network.
To the legitimate companies.
The businesses.
The estates.
The assets.
Everything worth protecting.
Nolan had never wanted the legacy.
He wanted control.
Salvatore understood.
Nolan believed the vault made him powerful.
But the real power was information.
And the truth was now everywhere.
Suddenly, the vault door opened.
Nobody moved.
Standing outside was the grandmother.
She was holding a small black pistol.
Her eyes were on Ella.
"Give me the child."
Salvatore stepped in front of her.
"No."
The grandmother raised the gun.
"You don't understand."
Salvatore stared.
"Explain."
"The network is collapsing."
"So?"
"The collapse releases every rival faction."
She looked at Ella.
"Only the heir can unite them."
"She's four."
"That is why they will accept her."
Salvatore shook his head.
"You want to make my daughter their symbol."
"Yes."
"No."
The grandmother smiled.
"You cannot stop history."
Then a shot rang out.
Everyone froze.
The grandmother's gun fell.
She looked down.
Blood spread across her dress.
Nolan stood behind her.
"I can."
The grandmother collapsed.
Nolan ran.
Salvatore chased him through the corridor.
But before he reached the exit, Nolan turned.
He was smiling.
Because someone else was standing behind Salvatore.
May you like
Hattie.
And Hattie was holding a gun to Adelaide's head.
