Chapter 5 - THE BIRTH CERTIFICATEVittorio refused to accept it.

“Get out.”

The attorney didn't move.

“You've been lied to for twelve years.”

“My daughter was born in Milan.”

“Yes.”

“She has a birth certificate.”

“Yes.”

“She has medical records.”

“Yes.”

“Her DNA is mine.”

The attorney smiled.

“Is it?”

Vittorio's hand tightened around his gun.

The attorney opened the box.

Inside was another document.

A DNA report.

Vittorio read it.

The father was listed as Vittorio Bellini.

The mother was unknown.

And the result was disturbing.

PATERNITY: 0.00%.

Vittorio stopped breathing.

“No.”

Lucy watched him.

“Daddy?”

He couldn't answer.

The attorney continued.

“Your wife at the time was unable to carry a pregnancy.”

Vittorio looked at Lucy.

“Who told you that?” the attorney asked.

Vittorio suddenly remembered.

Bianca had mentioned it once.

Casually.

Almost as a joke.

He had never questioned the medical records.

Never checked.

Never imagined he would need to.

The attorney said:

“Isabella knew the truth.”

“And Bianca?”

“She knows more than you think.”

Vittorio looked toward the security cameras.

“Where is my real daughter?”

The attorney smiled.

“That's the wrong question again.”

Vittorio slammed him against the wall.

“Answer me.”

“You never had a biological daughter named Lucy.”

Vittorio froze.

The attorney whispered:

“The girl you've raised was planted inside your life.”

Emma gasped.

Lucy stepped backward.

“No.”

The attorney looked at her.

“She was raised to watch you.”

Vittorio turned toward Lucy.

His heart shattered.

“Who are you?”

Lucy stared at him.

Then she whispered:

“I don't know.”

The attorney's expression softened.

“That's what they wanted you to believe.”

Vittorio released him.

“You're saying my daughter is a spy?”

“No.”

“Then what?”

“A key.”

The attorney walked toward the table.

“The Bellini family possesses assets hidden through trusts, shell companies, and properties that cannot be accessed without a specific genetic authorization.”

Vittorio stared at him.

“And Lucy has the marker.”

“Yes.”

“Why didn't you take her?”

“Because she isn't the only one.”

The attorney pointed at Emma.

Vittorio looked at the housekeeper.

Emma was trembling.

“No,” she whispered.

The attorney said:

“Your housekeeper has the same marker.”

Vittorio stared at Emma.

“That can't be.”

“It can.”

Emma lowered her head.

“I never knew.”

The attorney nodded.

“That is why Isabella protected her.”

Suddenly the lights flickered.

The attorney looked toward the window.

“We are out of time.”

“What happens now?”

He turned to Vittorio.

“Bianca believes she has Lucy.”

“She doesn't?”

“No.”

“Then who?”

The attorney smiled.

“Her son.”

Vittorio's blood turned cold.

“Bianca doesn't have a son.”

“She did.”

“Where is he?”

The attorney leaned close.

“Ask Marcus.”

A gunshot came from outside.

The attorney collapsed.

Blood spread across his shirt.

Vittorio dropped beside him.

The man grabbed his collar.

“Don't trust
”

He coughed.

“
the woman
”

“Which woman?”

The attorney's eyes moved toward Elena.

“
who came back.”

Then he died.

Vittorio slowly looked at Elena.

She stood perfectly still.

Too still.

“Who are you really?”

Elena didn't answer.

Vittorio raised his weapon.

She finally smiled.

May you like

And said:

“I'm the woman your mother hired to kill you.”
