Chapter 15 - THE LAST DOORBy the time they reached the mansion, flames had consumed the east wing.

Smoke filled the corridors.
Security alarms screamed.
People were running.
But Vittorio stopped at the entrance.
Something felt wrong.
The fire wasn't spreading naturally.
It was too controlled.
Too symmetrical.
Someone had started it deliberately.
âTo destroy the evidence,â Catherine said.
Vittorio looked at her.
âWhich evidence?â
âThe Black Ledger.â
He ran.
The vault beneath the cemetery had already been emptied.
Marcus was gone.
His father had vanished.
Bianca was nowhere to be found.
Only Elena, Maria, Isabella, Emma, and Lucy remained.
Vittorio returned to the burning study.
The old map rack was destroyed.
The wall behind it had been damaged.
He remembered Marcus crashing through it.
He remembered the antique maps.
Then something caught his eye.
One map had survived.
A map of Italy.
He pulled it from the wall.
Behind it was a steel panel.
He opened it.
Inside was another note.
His mother's handwriting.
YOU FOUND THE FIRST DOOR.
Vittorio stared.
There were three lines below.
THE SECOND IS BELOW THE HOUSE.
THE THIRD IS INSIDE YOURSELF.
WHEN YOU REMEMBER EVERYTHING, YOU WILL KNOW WHO BETRAYED YOU.
Vittorio closed his eyes.
Memories surged.
Bianca.
Marcus.
The drugs.
The hospital.
His mother's funeral.
The night of the murder.
Then one memory.
A conversation.
He was sitting in his father's office twelve years ago.
His father wasn't alone.
Bianca was there.
They were talking about him.
Vittorio remembered the sentence.
âOnce he marries me, everything belongs to us.â
He had been listening from behind the door.
But there had been someone else in the room.
Someone he had trusted.
Someone who had helped him forget.
Vittorio opened his eyes.
He looked at Emma.
Then Catherine.
Then Elena.
Then Maria.
Then Isabella.
Then Lucy.
And finally Bianca walked out of the smoke.
Alive.
She was bruised.
Her clothes were burned.
But she was carrying the Black Ledger.
Vittorio raised his gun.
âDrop it.â
Bianca stopped.
âI can explain.â
âYou lied to me.â
âYes.â
âYou drugged me.â
âYes.â
âYou abused Lucy.â
âYes.â
âYou betrayed my mother.â
Bianca began crying.
âYes.â
Vittorio's voice shook.
âWhy?â
Bianca looked at Lucy.
âBecause I was trying to save you.â
âYou could have told me.â
âI did.â
âWhat?â
âEvery time I tried.â
Vittorio froze.
Bianca took out her phone.
She opened a folder.
Inside were dozens of messages.
Emails.
Recordings.
Warnings.
All sent to Vittorio over the past three years.
He had never seen them.
Every message had been blocked.
Not by Bianca.
By someone else.
His eyes moved to Catherine.
She looked away.
Vittorio slowly lowered the gun.
âYou blocked them.â
Catherine began crying.
âI was told to.â
âBy whom?â
She didn't answer.
Bianca did.
âBy the person who has been controlling this family from the beginning.â
The room fell silent.
âWho?â
Bianca looked toward the staircase.
A figure stood there.
Old.
Calm.
Smiling.
Everyone froze.
Vittorio's father.
He was bleeding.
But alive.
And beside him stood the woman Vittorio had trusted most after his mother died.
His attorney.
Elena's face went white.
âNo.â
Vittorio looked at her.
âWhat?â
She whispered:
âShe was there the night Isabella disappeared.â
The attorney smiled.
Then she removed her glasses.
Underneath the harmless appearance was a cold, familiar expression.
She looked at Vittorio and said:
âYou finally remember.â
Vittorio raised his gun.
âWho are you?â
The woman smiled.
âYour mother's sister.â
Elena stared.
âNoâŠâ
The woman laughed.
âHello, Elena.â
Vittorio felt the entire world shift.
âYou said your mother had no sister,â Elena whispered.
âI lied.â
The woman looked at Isabella.
Then at Lucy.
Then at Vittorio.
âI have been waiting twenty years for both of them.â
Vittorio tightened his grip.
âWhat do you want?â
She smiled.
âThe same thing your father wanted.â
âThe empire?â
âNo.â
She pointed at Lucy and Isabella.
âThe bloodline.â
Then she opened the Black Ledger.
The final page had been cut out.
Vittorio stared.
âWhere is the last page?â
She smiled.
âI memorized it.â
âWhat does it say?â
Her eyes met his.
âIt says the Bellini heir isn't Isabella.â
Vittorio went still.
âThen who?â
The woman slowly turned toward Lucy.
Lucy stepped backward.
âNoâŠâ
The woman smiled.
âYou.â
The mansion fell silent.
Lucy stared at Vittorio.
âDaddy?â
Vittorio looked at her.
For twelve years, he had protected this child.
For twelve years, he had loved her.
For twelve years, he had believed she was someone she wasn't.
Now two girls stood before him.
Two daughters.
Two heirs.
Two targets.
And somewhere inside the burning mansion, a hidden clock began ticking.
The woman smiled.
âYou have thirty minutes.â
âUntil what?â
She whispered:
âUntil the entire Bellini fortune is transferred.â
Vittorio looked at the flames consuming his home.
Then at his daughters.
Then at the woman who had orchestrated everything.
He finally understood.
The dog bowl had never been the beginning.
It had been the warning.
Someone had wanted him angry.
Someone had wanted him to attack Bianca.
Someone had wanted him to uncover the first layer.
Because every door he opened brought him closer to the real secret.
Vittorio looked at Lucy.
Then Isabella.
He took their hands.
And for the first time in twelve years, he knew exactly what he was fighting for.
Not money.
Not revenge.
Not the Bellini name.
His family.
The woman stepped backward toward the flames.
âChoose,â she said.
Vittorio stared.
âChoose what?â
She smiled.
May you like
âWhich daughter lives.â
And the doors of the burning mansion slammed shut.
