Chapter 2 — The Truth Behind the Fall Victoria's heel caught the edge of the first marble step. She steadied herself against the polished railing, her breathing uneven. "No..." she whispered. "She's lying." Adrian didn't answer. He kept walking. One slow step. Then another. The distance between them shrank while the entire foyer remained silent. The staff exchanged terrified glances, but nobody dared interfere. Elena still sat on the floor, one trembling hand wrapped around her bruised wrist. Her voice broke. "I begged her to stop." Adrian stopped moving. His shoulders stiffened. "What happened?" he asked without turning around. Elena swallowed hard. "I told Victoria I was going to tell you about the baby." Her eyes filled with tears. "She smiled." The memory made her shiver. "She said your future couldn't include me." The room seemed colder. "Then she followed me upstairs." Victoria shook her head violently. "That's not true!" But Elena continued. "She blocked the hallway." "I tried to walk away." "She grabbed my arm..." Elena slowly raised her sleeve. Dark fingerprints covered her pale skin. "I told her she was hurting me." Another tear slipped down her cheek. "She said if I disappeared... everything would finally belong to her." Adrian slowly closed his eyes. His fists tightened. "And then?" he whispered. Elena looked toward the staircase. "She pushed me." Silence. "I remember falling." "The railing." "The pain." "And then..." She gently placed both hands over her stomach. "I woke up in the hospital." "My baby was gone." Victoria suddenly screamed. "She has no proof!" At that exact moment... One of the housekeepers stepped forward. Everyone turned. The elderly woman clutched a small flash drive in her shaking hand. "I do." / Chapter 2 / 2 0

Chapter 4 — A Different Kind of Family

Chapter 4 — A Different Kind of Family

Six months later...

Spring sunlight filled the small memorial garden behind the church.

Cherry blossoms drifted through the warm breeze.

Adrian stood quietly beside Elena.

Between them rested a tiny white stone engraved with only three words.

Forever Our Angel.

Neither of them spoke for a long time.

Finally...

Adrian broke the silence.

"I believed the wrong person."

His voice cracked.

"I failed both of you."

Elena looked down at the flowers.

"You didn't push me."

"No."

"But you believed the woman who did."

He lowered his head.

"I'll regret that for the rest of my life."

Months earlier, Victoria had pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, causing the unlawful death of an unborn child, evidence tampering, and obstruction of justice. She received a lengthy prison sentence, ending the life she had tried so desperately to protect.

Elena had spent months rebuilding herself.

Not because revenge healed her—

It didn't.

Justice simply gave her permission to breathe again.

She placed a small teddy bear beside the white stone.

Then turned toward Adrian.

"I forgive you."

His eyes filled with tears.

"But forgiveness doesn't mean we belong together."

He nodded.

"I know."

They walked away from the grave side by side.

Not as lovers.

Not as enemies.

Just two broken people carrying the same loss.

As they reached the garden gate, Elena paused.

She looked up into the bright spring sky.

For the first time in months...

She smiled.

Not because the past had disappeared.

But because it no longer controlled her.

Sometimes the happiest ending isn't getting back what was taken.

It's finding the strength to keep living after everything is gone.
