CHAPTER 2 — THE SONG ONLY SHE REMEMBERED Princess Elyria's lips parted. But no order came. Captain Kael frowned. "Your Highness?" Silence. The nobles exchanged uneasy glances. The princess never hesitated. Never. Not until now. She slowly rose from the emerald throne. Every movement echoed through the silent ballroom. Her emerald gown brushed across the marble floor as she descended the royal dais. Kael instinctively stepped between her and the boy. "Please remain behind me." She didn't answer. Instead... she looked directly into the child's eyes. "Have we met?" The boy lowered his head. "I don't remember." The answer confused everyone. Even Kael. The princess took another step. The boy reached beneath his soaked cloak. Instantly— Steel hissed from scabbards. Dozens of swords pointed toward the child. Several ladies screamed. "He's armed!" But instead of a weapon... the boy slowly revealed something wrapped in faded blue cloth. An old wooden music box. Its paint had nearly disappeared. One tiny silver star remained on the lid. Princess Elyria froze. Her breathing stopped. "No..." she whispered. Her fingers trembled. "I destroyed that..." The ballroom fell into shocked silence. The boy carefully wound the tiny key. Click... Click... Click... A soft lullaby floated into the chamber. Not loud. Not magical. Simply gentle. Ancient. Heartbreaking. Princess Elyria staggered backward. "No..." Only three people had ever known that melody. Her late mother. Herself. And... the baby brother who had disappeared during the palace massacre fifteen years earlier. Kael stared at her. "Your Highness?" A tear rolled down Elyria's cheek. She whispered words nobody expected. "Who taught you that song?" The boy answered quietly. "My mother." He paused. "She said... my sister used to sing it." The entire ballroom stopped breathing. / Chapter 1 / 2 4

CHAPTER 3 — THE LIE THAT BUILT A KINGDOM

CHAPTER 3 — THE LIE THAT BUILT A KINGDOM

King Aldric arrived before anyone could speak again.

The massive palace doors burst open.

Royal guards immediately knelt.

"My King."

The old monarch walked into the ballroom wearing black ceremonial armor.

His expression remained calm.

Until he saw the music box.

His face turned white.

"So..."

he whispered.

"You survived."

Every noble looked toward him in disbelief.

Princess Elyria slowly turned.

"Father..."

"What does he mean?"

The king closed his eyes.

For years...

he had rehearsed this confession.

He had simply hoped it would never be necessary.

Fifteen years earlier...

the palace had indeed been attacked.

But the assassins had not taken the infant prince.

The king himself had ordered the child removed.

A prophecy had terrified him.

"The second royal child," the royal seer had warned,

"will unite the kingdom...

only after the crown falls."

Afraid that civil war would destroy Eldoria, Aldric secretly entrusted the baby to Sir Rowan, his most loyal knight.

The knight fled.

But their carriage was attacked.

Everyone believed the child had died.

Everyone...

except Rowan's widow.

She escaped with the infant.

She raised him as her own.

Poor.

Forgotten.

Hidden from every kingdom.

The boy looked directly at the king.

"You abandoned me."

King Aldric lowered his head.

"Yes."

The word struck harder than any sword.

Princess Elyria stepped backward as tears blurred her vision.

"My entire life..."

"I mourned a brother who was never dead."

Kael slowly released the grip on his sword.

Every noble in the room realized they had just witnessed the greatest royal deception in Eldoria's history.

Then an elderly duke suddenly pointed toward the boy.

"He has the royal birthmark."

The boy slowly rolled back his torn sleeve.

A silver phoenix spread across his shoulder.

The symbol of House Vaelor.

Impossible to counterfeit.

One by one...

the nobles knelt.

May you like

Not to the king.

To the forgotten prince.
