Chapter 2: The Slap That Changed Everything

Chapter 1: The Hand Beneath the Shoe

The enormous five-tier wedding cake tilted dangerously as the young waiter stumbled forward. Gasps echoed beneath the glittering crystal chandeliers. Plates rattled. Conversations died instantly.

The waiter, Ethan, managed to steady the cake just before disaster struck.

A wave of relieved applause almost began.

Then it stopped.

Because everyone saw what happened next.

The groom, Victor Ashford, smiled.

Slowly, deliberately, he pressed the polished heel of his expensive shoe onto Ethan's outstretched hand.

A sickening crack echoed across the silent ballroom.

Ethan cried out in pain.

"What are you doing?" an elderly guest whispered.

Victor laughed.

"You nearly ruined my wedding," he said loudly enough for everyone to hear. "Do you know how much this cake costs? People like you should be grateful you're allowed inside this place."

The guests exchanged uneasy glances, but no one intervened.

Ethan's fingers trembled beneath the crushing weight.

"I'm sorry, sir," he whispered through gritted teeth.

Victor leaned closer.

"Sorry isn't enough."

He grabbed a handful of frosting from the cake and smeared it across Ethan's face while several guests nervously looked away.

At that exact moment, a deep voice cut through the humiliation.

"Remove your foot."

The command carried the quiet authority of someone accustomed to being obeyed.

Victor turned.

Standing at the entrance of the wedding hall was a tall man dressed in a simple black suit.

No one recognized him.

But the color drained from the faces of several senior executives seated near the front.

Because they knew exactly who had just arrived.

Damien Sterling.
