Chapter 3: The Last Truth

Chapter 3: The Last Truth

The study door opened slowly.

Daniel Whitmore entered with the calm smile of a man who believed he still controlled the room.

"Quite a reunion," he said.

Ethan stepped in front of Isabella and Lucas.

"Did you push her car?"

Daniel glanced at Victoria, then at the photograph on the desk.

"You should have stayed dead," he said to Isabella.

That was answer enough.

Victoria gasped. Ethan’s face hardened with a rage Isabella had never seen before.

"Why?" Ethan asked.

"Because Father left the company to both of you," Daniel snapped. "She was going to expose the accounts. If she talked, everything I built would disappear."

"So you tried to kill my wife."

"I tried to save this family."

Daniel reached for the desk drawer, but Ethan was faster. He slammed the drawer shut and pinned his brother’s arm against the wood.

Security guards rushed into the room.

"Call the police," Ethan ordered.

For the first time that night, Daniel looked afraid.

Minutes later, red and blue lights flashed across the mansion windows. Guests watched from the driveway as officers led Daniel away in handcuffs.

The rain began just as the police cars disappeared through the gates.

Inside the study, Lucas climbed into Isabella’s lap and fell asleep against her shoulder.

Ethan knelt beside them.

"I don’t deserve another chance," he said.

Isabella studied his face for a long moment.

"Maybe not," she answered softly. "But Lucas deserves his parents."

Ethan nodded, unable to speak.

Outside, dawn slowly broke over the Whitmore estate. The engagement decorations were being removed one by one, carried away like the remains of a life built on lies.

Isabella looked through the window at the rising sun.

Two years earlier, everyone believed she had died in the river.

Tonight, the truth had finally surfaced.

And for the first time since the crash, the Whitmore family was no longer haunted by a ghost.

They were finally living with the truth.
