Chapter 2: The Price of Betrayal
Three weeks later, the city had a new favorite headline.
The untouchable Damian Carter had fallen.
Veronica abandoned him before the month ended.
The expensive handbags disappeared.
The luxury car was repossessed.
Her promises of eternal devotion vanished with the first sign of hardship.
Meanwhile, Elena returned to Laurent Global's headquarters.
Employees who had only heard rumors about the mysterious founder finally met the woman behind the company.
She remembered names.
She listened before speaking.
She rebuilt departments that had been neglected.
Under her leadership, profits soared higher than ever.
One rainy afternoon, Damian appeared in the lobby.
He looked exhausted.
Older.
Smaller.
He requested five minutes.
Against everyone's expectations, Elena agreed.
They sat across from each other in silence.
"I was a fool," Damian admitted.
"I know."
"I did love you once."
Elena folded her hands neatly.
"Perhaps you did," she said softly. "But love without respect eventually becomes possession."
Tears filled his eyes.
"I wish I had understood that sooner."
Elena studied the man she had once imagined growing old beside.
The anger she had carried no longer burned.
Only clarity remained.
"I forgive you, Damian."
His expression brightened briefly.
Until she added,
"But forgiveness is not an invitation to return."
He lowered his head.
For the first time in his life, Damian understood that some losses could never be repaired.
He stood.
"Goodbye, Elena."
May you like
"Goodbye."
He walked out into the rain alone.
