Chapter 2: The Price of Betrayal
Chapter 1: The Fall of the Golden Empire
The silence inside the mansion stretched so tightly it felt capable of shattering glass.
Damian stared at Elena as if he had never seen her before.
"What did he call you?" he asked, his voice trembling despite his effort to remain composed.
Elena looked at him without emotion.
The woman who had once sat quietly at his dinner table, endured Veronica's insults, and accepted every humiliation now stood before him like a stranger.
The executive adjusted his glasses and answered on her behalf.
"Ms. Elena Laurent is the founder and majority shareholder of Laurent Global Holdings."
Veronica laughed nervously.
"That's impossible."
But no one joined her.
The executive handed Elena a tablet displaying the latest reports.
"All transactions connected to Mr. Damian Carter's companies have been frozen. Investors have already begun withdrawing."
Damian grabbed the tablet.
His face turned pale.
"No... There has to be a mistake."
"There isn't," Elena replied calmly.
For years, Damian had believed Elena's quiet nature was weakness. He had never bothered to ask why someone so intelligent tolerated endless disrespect.
The truth was simple.
She had loved him.
And love had made her patient.
Until betrayal made her remember who she was.
Within an hour, phones rang endlessly throughout the mansion.
Board members resigned.
Partners disappeared.
Banks demanded repayment.
The empire Damian had built using Elena's support collapsed like a palace made of sand beneath an incoming tide.
He looked at her desperately.
"Elena... please. We can talk about this."
She met his gaze.
"We could have talked before you chose humiliation over gratitude."
May you like
Then she walked away.
Without looking back.
