Chapter 4 – The Door She Was Meant to Open
One year later.
The storm had become nothing more than a memory.
Sunlight poured through the tall windows of the Carranza Foundation for Women's Recovery.
The building had once been an abandoned hotel.
Now it sheltered women escaping abuse, trafficking, and violence.
Elena walked through the lobby greeting every new arrival by name.
She remembered exactly how it felt to arrive with nothing.
No shoes.
No phone.
No future.
A volunteer approached her.
"Someone's asking for you."
Outside stood a frightened young woman wearing a torn dress and holding a plastic grocery bag with all her belongings.
She looked exactly the way Elena had looked one year earlier.
The young woman hesitated.
"I... I don't know where else to go."
Elena smiled gently.
"You came to the right place."
Behind her, Matthew watched quietly from the entrance.
He had never tried to rescue Elena.
He had simply opened a door.
She had walked through it herself.
As the young woman stepped inside, Elena held the door open until it closed softly behind them.
The rain that had once chased her through the darkness had unknowingly carried her toward the one person capable of ending Isabel Vargas's reign forever.
Sometimes fate does not arrive as a miracle.

Sometimes it arrives as the stranger whose door you choose to open.
The End.
