Chapter 3 – The House of Lies
Chapter 3 – The House of Lies
Before sunrise, police vehicles surrounded the Vargas estate.
Search warrants filled every room.
Detectives opened locked offices.
Financial investigators seized computers.
Hidden cameras documented everything.
Then they found the basement.
Behind a reinforced steel door sat dozens of confidential files.
Photographs.
Passports.
Forged contracts.
Bank transfers worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
And names.
So many names.
Young women who had disappeared after being promised jobs.
Business partners who had quietly accepted "gifts."
Politicians who had accepted payments.
Detective Laura Bennett turned toward Matthew.
"You were right."
Matthew answered quietly.
"No."
He nodded toward Elena.
"She was."
Meanwhile Isabel stood in the marble foyer wearing yesterday's evening gown.
For the first time in decades, she had no control over the room.
As officers placed handcuffs around her wrists, she spotted Elena standing safely beside Matthew.
"You ungrateful little girl!" Isabel screamed.
"I gave you everything!"
Elena looked at the woman she had once called family.
"No."
"You only taught me what fear looks like."
"And now..."
"...everyone else gets to see it too."

Isabel was led away as cameras captured every second.
The empire she had built collapsed before breakfast.
