Chapter 2 — The Ceiling Came Down For one long second, nobody moved. The dog's teeth stayed locked onto the bride's dress, its deep growls echoing through the silent church. Guests stared in disbelief. The groom reached for the leash again. "Enough!" he snapped. Before anyone could pull the dog away— CRACK. A sharp sound exploded above the altar. Every head tilted upward. The massive crystal chandelier hanging directly over where the bride had been standing swayed violently. Another crack. Then— The steel support hidden inside the old wooden ceiling finally gave way. The chandelier crashed downward with a deafening roar. Glass burst across the marble floor like frozen rain. Heavy iron twisted through the aisle. Candles shattered. Flowers flew into the air. The spot where the bride had been standing only seconds earlier disappeared beneath tons of crystal and metal. Screams filled the church. The bride collapsed backward, protected only because the dog had dragged her away at the last possible moment. She stared at the wreckage, unable to breathe. "If he hadn't pulled you..." The priest couldn't finish the sentence. Tears rolled down the bride's face as she wrapped both arms around her dog. "You saved me." Guests applauded through trembling hands. But while everyone focused on the miracle... One man wasn't looking at the fallen chandelier. The groom was staring at the broken ceiling. His face had turned completely white. Because he knew something no one else did. And someone else in the church had noticed. / Chapter 1 / 2 17

Chapter 3 — The Hidden Camera

Chapter 3 — The Hidden Camera

Within minutes, police officers and emergency inspectors secured the church.

Everyone assumed the collapse had been an accident.

Everyone...

Except the old maintenance supervisor.

He climbed carefully into the damaged attic above the altar.

Then he froze.

The main support cable hadn't snapped.

It had been cleanly cut.

"There is no way this happened by itself," he whispered.

Police immediately treated the church as a crime scene.

Security cameras from nearby businesses were collected.

Most showed nothing unusual.

Until investigators reviewed footage from two hours before the ceremony.

A lone figure entered the church through a maintenance entrance carrying a toolbox.

Baseball cap.

Dark jacket.

Face hidden.

He stayed inside for exactly eleven minutes.

When detectives zoomed in on the parking lot footage...

The mysterious man walked toward a black SUV.

The bride gasped.

"I know that car..."

Everyone turned toward the groom.

He forced an uneasy smile.

"There are thousands of SUVs like that."

But Detective Harris wasn't convinced.

"Maybe."

He paused.

"Then why does the license plate match the one registered to your family's construction company?"

Silence swallowed the room.

The groom slowly stepped backward.

His breathing became uneven.

The bride looked into his eyes...

May you like

And for the first time since meeting him...

She felt afraid.
