Chapter 3 — The Hidden Camera
Chapter 3 — The Hidden Camera
Within minutes, police officers and emergency inspectors secured the church.
Everyone assumed the collapse had been an accident.
Everyone...
Except the old maintenance supervisor.
He climbed carefully into the damaged attic above the altar.
Then he froze.
The main support cable hadn't snapped.
It had been cleanly cut.
"There is no way this happened by itself," he whispered.
Police immediately treated the church as a crime scene.
Security cameras from nearby businesses were collected.
Most showed nothing unusual.
Until investigators reviewed footage from two hours before the ceremony.
A lone figure entered the church through a maintenance entrance carrying a toolbox.
Baseball cap.
Dark jacket.
Face hidden.
He stayed inside for exactly eleven minutes.
When detectives zoomed in on the parking lot footage...
The mysterious man walked toward a black SUV.
The bride gasped.
"I know that car..."
Everyone turned toward the groom.
He forced an uneasy smile.
"There are thousands of SUVs like that."
But Detective Harris wasn't convinced.
"Maybe."
He paused.
"Then why does the license plate match the one registered to your family's construction company?"
Silence swallowed the room.
The groom slowly stepped backward.
His breathing became uneven.
The bride looked into his eyes...
May you like
And for the first time since meeting him...
She felt afraid.
