Chapter 6: Elena Voss’s Final Message

The cemetery had never felt so quiet.

Not peaceful.

Quiet.

There was a difference.

Peace was the absence of danger.

Quiet was the moment before something changed forever.

I held the recording device in my hand.

A small black object.

Nothing special.

No expensive technology.

No hidden mechanisms.

Just a piece of plastic and metal that had somehow survived twenty-three years underground.

But somehow, it carried more weight than any weapon I had ever held.

Because inside it was the voice of the woman who shaped my entire life.

A woman I believed was gone.

A woman I spent decades mourning.

A woman who apparently knew this moment would come.

My fingers tightened around it.

"Does it work?" Daniel asked.

I looked at him.

His voice was careful.

Almost afraid.

"Why?"

He looked at the device.

"Because whatever is on that recording..."

He paused.

"It changes everything."

I almost smiled.

"Everything already changed."

I pressed the button.

Static filled the air.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then...

A voice.

A voice I had not heard since childhood.

A voice my mind recognized before my heart could accept.

"Alexander."

I froze.

The world around me disappeared.

The cemetery.

The rain.

The people standing beside me.

Gone.

There was only her voice.

"My son..."

A shaky breath followed.

"If you are hearing this, then I failed to protect you."

My chest tightened.

No.

Not failed.

She had spent twenty years preparing for this.

But I said nothing.

Because hearing her voice was like opening a door I had locked for half my life.

"First, I need you to understand something."

A pause.

"Your father did not start this."

I looked at Daniel.

Then Alexei.

Everyone was listening.

"Adrian was a dangerous man."

My mother's voice remained calm.

"But he was also a man trapped inside something much bigger than himself."

The recording continued.

"The organization called The Circle existed before your father. It existed before me. It existed before many of the people currently controlling it."

The wind moved through the cemetery.

"Their power does not come from weapons."

A pause.

"It comes from secrets."

I looked down at the list Alexei gave me.

Names.

Hundreds of names.

"Your father discovered The Circle when he was young. At first, he believed he could control it."

A sad silence.

"He was wrong."

The rain became heavier.

"Nobody controls The Circle."

Another pause.

"They control you."

The words stayed in the air.

I had spent my entire life believing power meant control.

Money.

Influence.

Fear.

But my mother was saying something different.

Real power belonged to the people who knew the truth.

"Alexander, there is something you must know."

Her voice became softer.

"Your father did not order my death."

Everyone became still.

My eyes moved toward Daniel.

A contradiction.

A mystery.

If Adrian did not kill her...

Then who did?

"Your father tried to save me."

The sentence shocked me.

My father.

The man I hated.

The man I blamed.

The man I believed destroyed my family.

Tried to save her.

"But saving someone from The Circle has a price."

A pause.

"And Adrian paid it."

The recording crackled.

"He made a deal."

I whispered:

"What deal?"

Of course, the recording did not answer me.

Only her voice continued.

"He agreed to become what he hated."

My mother's voice trembled slightly.

"He agreed to become the face of The Circle's operations in Seattle."

Everyone was silent.

"My husband became a monster because he believed a monster was the only thing that could protect our son."

I closed my eyes.

A memory appeared.

A small memory.

Me.

A child.

Standing in the doorway.

My father sitting alone in his office.

My mother arguing with him.

I remembered her saying:

"Adrian, he is our son. Not your successor."

At the time, I thought they were fighting about business.

Maybe they were fighting about saving me.

The recording continued.

"The day I disappeared was not my death."

A pause.

"It was my escape."

My heartbeat changed.

"Your father helped me leave."

I looked at Alexei.

He looked down.

Like he had carried this secret for years.

"Alexei helped create the illusion."

I turned sharply.

Alexei did not deny it.

"My death had to be believable."

My mother's voice became quieter.

"If The Circle knew I survived, they would hunt me forever."

"And if they knew about you..."

A pause.

"They would use you."

I stared at Emma.

The little girl who had heard everything.

The little girl who knew voices.

The little girl who somehow became part of this impossible story.

Then my mother's voice said something that made my blood freeze.

"There is another child."

Everyone looked at the recording device.

"Another child who knows the truth."

The cemetery became silent.

"Her name is Emma."

My eyes moved slowly toward the girl.

She looked down.

Like she already knew.

My mother continued.

"Emma is not just a child with a special memory."

A pause.

"She is the reason The Circle is afraid."

Viktor closed his eyes.

Daniel whispered:

"No..."

I looked at him.

"You knew."

He did not answer.

"You knew about Emma."

His silence confirmed it.

I stepped toward him.

"How long?"

Daniel looked broken.

"Since she was born."

The recording continued.

"Emma carries something The Circle has spent decades trying to obtain."

"What?" I asked the empty air.

Then my mother's answer came.

"Proof."

A chill moved through me.

"Not a document."

"Not a recording."

"Not a list of names."

A pause.

"The proof is inside her memory."

Everyone stared at Emma.

She looked terrified.

"My son, listen carefully."

My mother's voice became urgent.

"Do not trust anyone who claims they want power."

"Do not trust anyone who says they want revenge."

"Trust the person who wants the truth."

The recording began to fade.

But before it ended, my mother said one final thing.

Something that changed the entire meaning of the last twenty years.

"Alexander..."

A pause.

"Your father is not dead."

The device clicked.

Silence.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Because impossible had just become reality.

My father.

Adrian Voss.

The man whose grave I visited.

The man whose empire I inherited.

The man everyone believed was gone.

Was alive.

Then Daniel's phone rang.

Everyone looked at him.

He slowly pulled it out.

The screen showed one name.

ADRIAN VOSS

Daniel's face turned pale.

For fifteen years, I had seen Daniel face enemies, threats, and impossible situations.

I had never seen him look afraid.

Until now.

I took the phone from his hand.

I answered.

For several seconds, there was only silence.

Then a familiar voice spoke.

Older.

Colder.

But unmistakable.

"Hello, Alexander."

My grip tightened.

The voice continued.

"I heard you finally found your mother's message."

I could barely speak.

"Father."

A quiet breath came through the phone.

Then:

"I was hoping you would never have to."

I looked around the cemetery.

At Alexei.

At Daniel.

At Emma.

At the empty grave.

And I understood.

The bomb on the plane was not an assassination attempt.

It was a warning.

The attack was not meant to end my life.

It was meant to bring me here.

To this grave.

To this recording.

To this truth.

My father had planned this.

Twenty years ago.

And now...

May you like

He was waiting.
