CHAPTER 9: THE SON WHO CALLED HIM AN ENEMY

The world had a strange sense of cruelty.

Adrian Vale had spent twenty years searching for the woman he lost.

Twenty years believing the greatest tragedy of his life was losing Elena.

But now, standing in a dark hospital room...

He realized he had lost something even greater.

A son.

A son who had grown up without him.

A son who looked at him not with curiosity.

Not with sadness.

But with hatred.

Alexander Vale stood in the doorway.

Twenty-two years old.

Perfectly dressed.

Calm.

Controlled.

The exact image of what the Vale family created.

Adrian stared at him.

Searching for something.

Anything.

A familiar expression.

A childhood memory.

A piece of himself.

But all he saw was a stranger.

A stranger wearing his blood.

"You."

The word escaped Adrian's mouth.

Alexander smiled slightly.

"Disappointed?"

"No."

Adrian shook his head.

"Confused."

Alexander laughed quietly.

"Of course."

He stepped inside.

"Because for your entire life, you believed you were the victim."

The room became tense.

Damian immediately moved forward.

"Alexander."

Alexander looked at him.

"Uncle."

The word sounded empty.

No affection.

No respect.

Just a title.

"You should have stayed away."

Damian's expression hardened.

"I tried to protect you."

"No."

Alexander looked at him coldly.

"You tried to protect your secret."

Damian went silent.

Adrian noticed.

There was history between them.

Painful history.

"Alexander."

The young man turned toward Adrian.

Hearing his own name spoken by the man who created him seemed to irritate him.

"Don't."

Adrian stopped.

"Don't pretend."

"Pretend what?"

"That you care."

The words cut.

Not because they were cruel.

Because Adrian realized Alexander believed every word.

"You don't know me."

Alexander smiled.

"Neither do you."

Silence.

A painful truth.

Adrian wanted to say he loved him.

That he searched for him.

That he never abandoned him.

But how could he explain twenty years of absence?

To a child who never knew the truth?

"I didn't know you existed."

Alexander's expression didn't change.

"That's what they told you."

Adrian froze.

"They?"

Alexander looked at Elena.

Then back at him.

"Everyone has a story."

A pause.

"Everyone has an excuse."

Elena's face changed.

"Alexander..."

He looked at her.

For the first time, emotion appeared.

Pain.

Deep pain.

"You lied to me too."

The words hurt her.

"I was trying to protect you."

"No."

Alexander shook his head.

"You were trying to hide me."

Adrian looked between them.

Something was wrong.

The story wasn't complete.

Everyone had secrets.

Everyone had pieces missing.

"Alexander."

Adrian spoke carefully.

"What did they tell you?"

Alexander looked at him.

"My entire life."

A pause.

"That my father was a man who chose power over his family."

Adrian's heart tightened.

"That's not true."

Alexander laughed.

"Isn't it?"

He stepped closer.

"You built Vale Corporation into one of the most powerful companies in the world."

"Yes."

"You spent every day chasing money."

"No."

"You became exactly what your father wanted."

Adrian went silent.

Because there was a small piece of truth hidden inside the accusation.

He had spent years building an empire.

Years proving himself.

Years chasing success.

And maybe...

Maybe he had missed something.

Alexander continued.

"My grandfather told me everything."

Adrian's eyes narrowed.

"Your grandfather?"

"Yes."

"My father?"

Alexander nodded.

"He raised me."

The words were almost impossible to hear.

Adrian looked at Elena.

"You knew?"

She looked away.

"I found out too late."

Alexander smiled bitterly.

"Everyone always finds out too late."

The anger in his voice wasn't the anger of a villain.

It was the anger of someone who had been hurt for too long.

Then Adrian noticed something.

Alexander wasn't here to kill them.

If he wanted them dead, they would already be dead.

So why was he here?

"What do you want?"

Alexander looked at him.

Finally.

The question he had been waiting for.

"I want you to know the truth."

Adrian frowned.

"You came here to tell me the truth?"

"No."

Alexander shook his head.

"I came here because you found Clara."

Everyone froze.

Clara stepped closer to Adrian.

Alexander looked at her.

And something changed.

For a second...

He didn't look like an enemy.

He looked like an older brother seeing his little sister for the first time.

Then the expression disappeared.

"She shouldn't exist."

Adrian's eyes hardened.

"Careful."

Alexander looked at him.

"Why?"

"Because she's my daughter."

Alexander smiled.

"And I'm your son."

The sentence hung between them.

Then Alexander said:

"Tell me something, father."

Adrian looked at him.

"If you had known about me..."

A pause.

"Would you have chosen me?"

The question was not about the past.

It was about pain.

Adrian had no answer.

Because any answer would be too small.

"I would have chosen both of you."

Alexander looked away.

"That's what I wanted to hear."

"Alexander..."

"But I never got to hear it."

Silence.

Then suddenly...

The alarm stopped.

Everyone turned.

The emergency lights flickered back on.

And Adrian noticed something.

Alexander was not alone.

A man stood behind him.

Older.

Familiar.

Impossible.

Adrian's blood turned cold.

Because that man was supposed to be dead.

His father.

Richard Vale.

The man who had controlled everything.

The man who started the nightmare.

Adrian whispered:

"No..."

Alexander stepped aside.

The old man smiled.

"Hello, son."

The room froze.

Because Richard Vale had died fifteen years ago.

Adrian had attended his funeral.

He watched the coffin disappear.

He saw the death certificate.

He saw the grave.

But the man standing before him was alive.

And smiling.

Richard looked at Adrian.

Then at Clara.

Then at Elena.

"After all these years..."

He said calmly.

"Everyone finally came home."

May you like
