CHAPTER 11: THE NAME THAT WAS STOLEN

Adrian Vale had spent his entire life believing he knew who he was.
His name was Vale.
His blood was Vale.
His legacy was Vale.
Every achievement.
Every sacrifice.
Every battle.
Everything had been built around one simple truth.
He was a Vale.
But now, standing in the cold hallway of the abandoned facility, staring at the message on his phone...
That truth was beginning to collapse.
"Your father wasn't protecting the empire."
"He was protecting the truth about who you really are."
Adrian read the words again.
And again.
As if staring long enough would make them disappear.
They didn't.
Because somewhere deep inside...
A part of him had already accepted something was wrong.
Richard's obsession.
The secrets.
The way everyone seemed to know pieces of his life except him.
The way Elena had been hunted.
The way Damian had sacrificed everything to hide something.
It all pointed toward one terrifying possibility.
His entire identity was built on a lie.
"Adrian."
Elena's voice pulled him back.
He looked up.
She stood beside him.
Weak.
Exhausted.
But still the same woman who had once challenged the most powerful family in the world.
"What did you receive?"
Adrian showed her the phone.
Her expression changed immediately.
Not surprise.
Recognition.
"You know."
It wasn't a question.
Elena looked away.
"I hoped you would never have to find out this way."
Adrian felt a painful emptiness.
"Find out what?"
She remained silent.
"Elena."
His voice broke slightly.
"Who am I?"
She closed her eyes.
And for a moment...
She looked like someone carrying a secret that had become too heavy.
"You are still Adrian."
"Don't."
He shook his head.
"Don't give me something comforting."
A pause.
"I need the truth."
Elena looked at him.
"The truth is..."
Her voice trembled.
"Richard Vale was never your biological father."
The words were quiet.
But they destroyed everything.
Adrian didn't react.
Not immediately.
Sometimes the biggest shocks didn't feel like explosions.
They felt like silence.
A complete absence of thought.
"No."
Elena looked down.
"I'm sorry."
"No."
Adrian stepped back.
"You're saying my entire life..."
He struggled.
"My name..."
"Was given to you."
"Given?"
"Taken."
The word made him look up.
Elena continued.
"Your mother..."
Adrian froze.
"My mother?"
"She was the only person who knew the truth."
"What truth?"
Elena's eyes filled with sadness.
"That you were born into another family."
The hallway felt colder.
Adrian stared at her.
"Who?"
Elena didn't answer.
Because before she could...
Damian spoke.
"Adrian."
Everyone turned.
He stood nearby.
His face was filled with regret.
"You need to hear this from me too."
Adrian looked at him.
"How long?"
Damian swallowed.
"How long did you know?"
"Since the beginning."
The answer cut deeper.
"Since I was born?"
Damian nodded.
Adrian laughed quietly.
A painful sound.
"So everyone knew."
"No."
Damian shook his head.
"Not everyone."
"But enough people."
Silence.
Adrian turned away.
His entire life was suddenly a collection of borrowed pieces.
A borrowed name.
A borrowed family.
A borrowed legacy.
"Who was my real father?"
Damian looked at Elena.
Then said:
"His name was Gabriel Laurent."
The name meant nothing.
But the way they said it meant everything.
"Who was he?"
Damian hesitated.
"The man who built the foundation of the company before the Vale family took it."
Adrian frowned.
"What?"
"Your biological father was the original owner of the company."
The truth became more twisted.
"Richard didn't build the empire."
Damian shook his head.
"He stole it."
Adrian felt sick.
"So my whole life..."
"Was built on stolen history."
The words echoed.
Elena stepped closer.
"Adrian, listen to me."
He looked at her.
"Why?"
"Because you need to understand something."
A pause.
"Richard didn't choose you randomly."
"What do you mean?"
"He knew who you were."
Adrian froze.
Elena continued:
"He took you because you were the last remaining connection to Gabriel Laurent."
A cold feeling moved through him.
"Why?"
"Because Gabriel left something behind."
"What?"
Elena looked toward the darkness outside.
"The original ownership documents."
Adrian stared.
"Proof that the Vale empire belonged to my real family."
She nodded.
"Yes."
"And Richard never found it."
"No."
Adrian understood.
That was the missing piece.
The thing everyone had been fighting over.
The reason Elena was hunted.
The reason Richard stayed alive.
The reason Alexander was created.
A document.
A secret.
A truth powerful enough to destroy the Vale empire.
"Where is it?"
Elena became silent.
Adrian noticed.
"Elena."
She looked at him.
"Your mother hid it."
"My mother?"
"Yes."
"Where?"
Elena whispered:
"Inside you."
The words made no sense.
Adrian stared.
"What?"
"Not literally."
She shook her head.
"When you were a baby, your mother knew Richard would come for the evidence."
"So?"
"She created a backup."
Adrian waited.
Elena took a small breath.
"She placed the location of the documents inside a memory."
"A memory?"
"A childhood memory."
Adrian frowned.
"I don't understand."
"Because Richard erased it."
Silence.
"Your father used psychological conditioning on you."
Adrian felt his stomach tighten.
"He manipulated your memories."
"Why?"
"Because the only person who knew where the evidence was..."
Was you.
The realization hit him.
Adrian had spent years believing he had a normal childhood.
But now he wondered.
What memories were real?
What memories were planted?
What parts of his life belonged to him?
And what parts belonged to Richard?
Suddenly, Alexander spoke.
"I know where it is."
Everyone turned.
The young man stood near the doorway.
Adrian stared.
"You?"
Alexander nodded.
"Grandfather told me."
Damian's expression changed.
"What?"
Alexander looked at him.
"He told me everything."
Adrian stepped forward.
"Where is it?"
Alexander looked at him.
For a moment, there was hesitation.
Then he said:
"In the place where your childhood ended."
Adrian frowned.
"What does that mean?"
Alexander answered:
"The old Laurent house."
Nobody spoke.
Because Adrian knew that name.
A place he had never visited.
But somehow...
A place that appeared in his dreams.
A place he remembered without remembering.
Alexander continued:
"The night your mother disappeared..."
A pause.
"Was the night Richard changed you forever."
Adrian felt a chill.
"What happened that night?"
Alexander looked at him.
And said:
"You didn't lose your family."
A pause.
"They erased it."
