CHAPTER 8: THE SON BUILT TO DESTROY HIM

For several seconds, Adrian Vale forgot how to breathe.

A daughter he never knew existed was already impossible enough.

A lost love returning after twenty years was already more than he could handle.

But now...

Another child.

A son.

A child stolen from him.

A child raised by the same people who destroyed his family.

The room felt smaller.

The walls felt closer.

Like the truth itself was crushing the air out of him.

"You're saying..."

Adrian's voice was barely audible.

"I have a son?"

Elena closed her eyes.

Tears rolled down her face.

"Yes."

Adrian looked at Clara.

Then back at Elena.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

The question was not angry.

It was worse.

It was broken.

Elena looked away.

"Because I thought I would never see you again."

"You should have tried."

"I did."

Her voice trembled.

"I tried for years."

Adrian froze.

"What?"

Elena looked at him.

"Do you think I wanted you to believe I abandoned you?"

"No."

"Do you think I wanted Clara to grow up without her father?"

"No."

"Do you think I wanted our son taken away?"

Her voice cracked.

"No."

Silence.

"Then understand something, Adrian."

A tear fell.

"I lost everything too."

Those words hit him harder than he expected.

Because for twenty years, he imagined himself as the only victim.

The man who was left behind.

The man who was betrayed.

But Elena had been fighting a war he never knew existed.

Alone.

"Tell me about him."

Elena looked down.

For a moment, she looked like a mother remembering a child she had lost.

"His name was Noah."

The name hung in the room.

Noah.

Adrian repeated it silently.

"My son."

Elena nodded.

"He was born three years before Clara."

Adrian's eyes widened.

"Three years?"

"Yes."

"But Clara is eight."

Elena looked at him.

"Clara is eight."

A pause.

"Noah is eleven."

Adrian felt a strange pain.

An eleven-year-old boy.

A child who had existed for eleven years.

Eleven birthdays.

Eleven years of memories.

Without him.

"Where is he?"

Elena didn't answer immediately.

And Adrian knew that meant the answer would hurt.

Finally, she whispered:

"He's close."

"Close?"

"Closer than you think."

Adrian stared.

"What does that mean?"

Elena looked at Damian.

Something passed between them.

Something Adrian noticed.

"You know."

Damian looked uncomfortable.

"Elena..."

"You knew he survived."

The room went silent.

Adrian turned slowly.

"Damian."

His brother looked at the floor.

"Tell me."

No answer.

"Damian."

Finally, Damian spoke.

"Yes."

Adrian felt his anger rise.

"You knew?"

"I found out years later."

"And you didn't tell me?"

"I couldn't."

"Why?"

Damian looked at him.

"Because by then..."

A pause.

"He was already gone."

Adrian stepped forward.

"What does that mean?"

Damian swallowed.

"Your father didn't just hide him."

A long silence.

"He trained him."

The words made everyone freeze.

Adrian stared.

"Trained him for what?"

Damian looked at him.

"To hate you."

The next hour passed like a nightmare.

Damian explained everything.

After Elena disappeared, Adrian's father discovered she had given birth to a son.

A male heir.

The one thing he valued above everything.

But instead of returning the child...

He took him.

He erased every record.

Changed his identity.

Created a new life.

A life built around one purpose.

Control.

"Your father believed emotions made people weak," Damian said.

Adrian listened silently.

"He thought you were too soft."

"Because I loved Elena."

"Because you cared about people."

Damian looked away.

"He wanted a successor who would never hesitate."

Adrian's hands tightened.

"And he created one."

Damian nodded.

"Yes."

"A weapon."

"Yes."

The word was painful.

A father had looked at his own child...

And seen a weapon.

Adrian looked at Elena.

"What did he name him?"

She hesitated.

"Noah."

Adrian frowned.

"But you said..."

"That was his real name."

A pause.

"But your father gave him another one."

Adrian waited.

Elena whispered:

"Alexander Vale."

The name meant nothing.

Until Damian spoke.

"It should."

Adrian looked at him.

"Why?"

Damian's expression became serious.

"Because Alexander Vale is currently the youngest executive on the Vale board."

Silence.

Adrian stared.

"No."

Damian nodded slowly.

"Yes."

The room seemed to spin.

His own son.

The child stolen from him.

Was inside his company.

Inside his empire.

And he never knew.

"How old is he?"

"Twenty-two."

Adrian looked confused.

"Wait."

Damian continued.

"Your father forged his records."

"He made him older?"

"Yes."

Adrian shook his head.

"No..."

The pieces connected.

The young executive who appeared five years ago.

The mysterious genius.

The man investors called the future of Vale Corporation.

Alexander Vale.

Adrian had met him dozens of times.

He had praised him.

He had watched him rise.

He had no idea.

He was looking at his own son.

His own blood.

And the worst part...

Alexander hated him.

"Why?"

Adrian whispered.

"Why would he hate me?"

Elena's eyes filled with sadness.

"Because he was told you abandoned him."

The words destroyed him.

"What?"

"He grew up believing his father chose money over him."

Adrian closed his eyes.

Another lie.

Another stolen truth.

A child raised on a false memory.

A son taught to hate the man who loved him before he even knew him.

Then the door suddenly opened.

Everyone turned.

A nurse stood there.

Her face was pale.

"Mr. Vale..."

Adrian looked at her.

"What?"

She hesitated.

"Someone accessed the security system."

Damian stood immediately.

"Impossible."

The nurse looked terrified.

"They're inside the building."

Adrian's instincts changed instantly.

The businessman returned.

The survivor returned.

"Who?"

The nurse looked at the hallway.

Then whispered:

"The board members."

Damian's expression changed.

"No."

Adrian frowned.

"What?"

Damian looked at him.

"They aren't here for Elena."

A pause.

"They're here for Clara."

The lights suddenly went out.

Darkness swallowed the room.

A second later...

The emergency alarms started screaming.

Footsteps echoed in the hallway.

Many footsteps.

Adrian moved in front of Clara.

Elena tried to get up.

Damian reached for the door.

Then a voice came through the darkness.

A voice Adrian recognized.

A voice he had heard in meetings.

A voice he trusted.

"Adrian."

The footsteps stopped.

A man appeared in the doorway.

Young.

Confident.

Cold.

Alexander Vale.

Adrian's son.

The boy stolen from him.

The boy raised to destroy him.

Alexander looked directly at Adrian.

Then at Clara.

And smiled.

A smile without warmth.

Without love.

Without recognition.

"After twenty-two years..."

He said quietly.

"I finally meet the man who ruined my life."

Adrian stared at him.

Unable to speak.

Because the greatest enemy he had ever faced...

Was not a stranger.

It was his own son.
