Chapter 11 - The Underground VaultMara covered Noah's mouth.

Damien smashed the ventilation panel.

Fresh air barely entered.

Evelyn grabbed the emergency release.

Nothing.

The archive had been designed to become a sealed room.

A panic room in reverse.

Damien found an old maintenance hatch.

“Through here.”

They crawled into the tunnel.

The alarm followed them.

Noah coughed.

Evelyn pushed herself forward despite the pain.

Her legs were beginning to respond more naturally.

Not perfectly.

But enough.

They reached a steel door.

Lena entered a code.

Nothing.

She tried again.

The door opened.

Beyond it was a staircase descending underground.

Evelyn stared into the darkness.

“How far?”

“Three floors.”

Noah looked at her.

“You can do it.”

She smiled faintly.

“Apparently I just forgot how.”

They descended.

At the bottom was a massive underground facility.

Rows of old equipment.

Computer servers.

Medical beds.

Observation windows.

Mara stopped.

“This is Project Eden.”

Evelyn walked slowly.

She saw her own name on a monitor.

Patient 001.

Age nineteen.

Trauma response.

Conditioning phase.

She nearly fell.

“My mother said I wasn't supposed to be a subject.”

Lena answered,

“She became a subject when she tried to stop them.”

They found the vault.

Inside were boxes labeled with dates.

Evelyn opened one.

Bank records.

Property transfers.

Trust documents.

Then she saw something else.

A birth certificate.

NOAH DANIEL BELL.

Mother: Mara Bell.

Father: Daniel Bell.

But beneath it was another document.

A second record.

Mother: Evelyn Hartwell.

Evelyn stopped breathing.

“No.”

Mara grabbed the document.

“This is impossible.”

Noah looked between them.

“What does it say?”

Neither answered.

Evelyn looked at him.

There was something about his eyes.

Something she'd noticed in the ballroom.

Something that had felt familiar.

Noah's father was Daniel.

But Daniel had once told Evelyn's mother something.

A secret.

The truth came slowly.

Noah was not Evelyn's brother.

He was her son.

Seven years earlier, Evelyn had been pregnant.

Victor had erased the pregnancy from every medical record.

The child had been taken away.

Mara had raised him.

Evelyn had never known.

Noah stared at the documents.

“I'm her son?”

Mara began crying.

“We were going to tell you when you were old enough.”

Evelyn couldn't speak.

The boy looked at her.

“You're my mom?”

Evelyn dropped to her knees.

For the first time, her legs didn't shake.

She pulled Noah into her arms.

He hugged her.

Then the lights came on.

A voice echoed through the facility.

Victor.

“You finally found him.”

Evelyn looked upward.

Victor stood behind the glass above them.

With Julian beside him.

Victor smiled.

“You've spent seven years wondering why you survived.”

He pointed at Noah.

“Now you know why.”

Evelyn held Noah tighter.

Victor pressed a button.

A screen lit up.

A medical record appeared.

The words were unmistakable.

SUBJECT MOTHER: EVELYN HARTWELL.

Victor smiled.

“The truth is worth more than money.”

Then the doors behind them opened.

Armed men entered.
