Chapter 13 - The Final PhaseEvery screen in Solmere Tower suddenly turned black.

Then a countdown appeared.
30:00
Charlotte stared.
"What happens in thirty minutes?"
Evelyn smiled.
"The company dies."
Victoria rushed to a terminal.
"What did you do?"
Evelyn calmly explained.
"I transferred Solmere's debt into a chain of shell corporations."
Charlotte's heart sank.
"Automatic liquidation."
"Exactly."
"If the debt triggers, the hotels are seized."
"And billions of dollars vanish."
Charlotte looked at Evelyn.
"You'd rather destroy everything than let me own it."
Evelyn smiled.
"Now you understand me."
Charlotte stepped closer.
"You don't want Solmere."
"No."
Evelyn's eyes hardened.
"I want you to understand that power belongs to the person willing to burn everything."
Charlotte looked at her mother.
"What did you promise her?"
Eleanor whispered:
"Nothing."
"You lied."
Eleanor shook her head.
"I tried to protect you."
Charlotte stepped back.
"For twenty years, everyone has said they were protecting me."
She looked at everyone in the room.
"And everyone lied."
Her father approached.
"Charlotte."
She raised her hand.
"No more secrets."
She walked toward the central terminal.
"We have thirty minutes."
Victoria joined her.
"So what's the plan?"
Charlotte smiled.
"We save the company."
Daniel entered the room.
"I found something."
He held up a drive.
"Blackridge's liquidation contract."
Charlotte inserted it.
The system displayed hundreds of hidden clauses.
She scanned them.
Then stopped.
"Here."
Victoria looked.
"What?"
Charlotte smiled.
"Blackridge doesn't actually own the debt."
Everyone stared.
"It's collateralized through a third party."
Daniel frowned.
"Who?"
Charlotte clicked.
A company name appeared.
VALE FAMILY TRUST.
Eleanor gasped.
Charlotte turned.
"Mom?"
Eleanor's face went pale.
"I didn't know."
Charlotte looked at the ownership records.
"The trust owns the debt."
Her father understood.
"Then if you control the trust..."
Charlotte smiled.
"I control the debt."
She opened the trust agreement.
The controlling signature belonged to...
Charlotte.
Victoria laughed.
"She owns everything."
Charlotte looked at Evelyn.
"You spent twenty years trying to steal an empire you couldn't even touch."
Evelyn's face hardened.
"You don't understand the trust."
Charlotte did.
She began transferring the debt.
One by one.
Hotel liabilities.
Loans.
Shell companies.
Hidden accounts.
Everything moved into a single structure.
The countdown reached five minutes.
Evelyn moved toward Charlotte.
Security blocked her.
"Stop."
Charlotte continued typing.
Four minutes.
Three.
Two.
The final transfer appeared.
OWNERSHIP CONFIRMED.
The countdown vanished.
Solmere survived.
The room erupted in cheers.
Victoria laughed.
Daniel nearly collapsed from relief.
Charlotte looked at Evelyn.
"It's over."
Evelyn stared at her.
"No."
She smiled.
Charlotte's joy disappeared.
"You think this ends with me?"
Evelyn leaned closer.
"There is one thing you still don't know."
Charlotte said nothing.
Evelyn whispered:
"Your father isn't your father."
Silence.
Charlotte looked at the man who had raised her image for twenty years.
He didn't speak.
Eleanor closed her eyes.
Charlotte's world shattered again.
She turned slowly.
"Dad?"
He looked away.
May you like
And for the first time in twenty years...
he couldn't meet her eyes.
