Chapter 14: The Last Secret of Alexander Vale

The room remained frozen.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Victor Vale stood in the doorway, surrounded by darkness.

For the first time Daniel had ever seen him…

he looked tired.

Not powerful.

Not untouchable.

Just tired.

The man who spent his entire life making others afraid was now standing in front of them with fear in his own eyes.

Daniel noticed.

And that frightened him more than any threat Victor had ever made.

Because if Victor Vale was afraid…

then whatever truth was hidden beneath the Vale family was worse than anyone imagined.

“What are you afraid of?”

Daniel asked.

Victor looked at him.

The question seemed to surprise him.

Not because he didn’t know the answer.

Because he had spent his entire life refusing to say it.

“You really are like your mother.”

Daniel frowned.

“My mother?”

Victor stepped into the room.

“Anna always asked questions nobody wanted answered.”

Samuel watched him carefully.

“You don’t belong here, Victor.”

Victor looked at his uncle.

A bitter smile appeared.

“Neither did you.”

Samuel’s expression hardened.

“You destroyed everything Alexander built.”

Victor laughed quietly.

“No.”

He looked around the library.

“I completed it.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“You still don’t understand.”

Victor looked at him.

“What?”

Daniel’s voice became colder.

“You think this family was built by power.”

A pause.

“But it was built by fear.”

Victor said nothing.

Daniel continued.

“And you spent your entire life proving you were the strongest person in the room.”

He looked at Ethan, who had followed them quietly.

“But you never realized you were the weakest.”

Victor’s eyes moved toward Ethan.

For a moment, father and son stared at each other.

Years of pain.

Years of disappointment.

Everything they never said.

Then Victor looked away.

“You don’t know what I sacrificed.”

Ethan laughed softly.

“No.”

He shook his head.

“We know exactly what you sacrificed.”

A pause.

“You sacrificed us.”

The words landed harder than any attack.

Victor looked at his son.

But he had no answer.

Samuel walked toward an old bookshelf.

He removed a hidden book.

Not large.

Not impressive.

Just an old black journal.

“This is what everyone has been fighting for.”

Daniel looked at it.

“Alexander’s journal?”

Samuel nodded.

“The original record.”

Victor’s face changed.

“No.”

Everyone noticed.

Daniel stared at him.

“You’re afraid of a book?”

Victor didn’t answer.

Samuel opened the journal.

“Alexander Vale wrote down everything.”

He turned the pages.

“Every deal.”

“Every person he controlled.”

“Every secret he collected.”

Daniel watched.

“And?”

Samuel looked at Victor.

“He also wrote about his mistakes.”

Victor became tense.

“What mistakes?”

Samuel closed the book.

“The mistake of creating a family that valued power over people.”

Silence.

Daniel understood.

Alexander wasn’t just the founder.

He was the beginning of the disease.

But maybe…

he was also the first person to realize it.

Samuel continued.

“Near the end of his life, Alexander changed.”

Victor shook his head.

“No.”

Samuel looked at him.

“Yes.”

“He became weak.”

“No.”

Samuel’s voice was firm.

“He became human.”

Those words seemed to anger Victor.

“Humanity is why families like this collapse.”

Daniel looked at him.

“No.”

A pause.

“Families like this collapse because people forget they’re human.”

Victor stared.

For once, he had no response.

Samuel opened the journal.

“Alexander discovered something.”

Daniel waited.

“He realized the Vale empire could never survive forever.”

Marcus frowned.

“Why?”

Samuel looked at him.

“Because every generation became more ruthless than the one before.”

He looked at Victor.

“Until eventually, there would be nothing left except monsters.”

The room became silent.

Daniel looked at Lily.

A child who had already seen too much.

Samuel continued.

“So Alexander created a final inheritance.”

Daniel frowned.

“What inheritance?”

Samuel looked directly at him.

“You.”

Daniel froze.

“What?”

“Alexander believed the family needed someone who could end what he started.”

Victor’s expression changed.

“That’s impossible.”

Samuel ignored him.

“Someone with the Vale bloodline.”

A pause.

“But without the Vale mindset.”

Daniel stared.

“You mean…”

Samuel nodded.

“Alexander searched for a descendant who could destroy the empire from within.”

Daniel looked at Victor.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Victor remained silent.

And that silence revealed everything.

Daniel understood.

Victor didn’t hide the truth because he wanted to protect him.

He hid it because he was afraid.

Afraid Daniel would become the person Alexander intended.

The person who would end everything.

Suddenly, Victor moved.

Everyone reacted.

But he didn’t attack.

He reached into his coat.

He pulled out a small envelope.

Daniel immediately became cautious.

“What is that?”

Victor looked at him.

“The last thing your mother left behind.”

Daniel froze.

“My mother?”

Victor nodded.

“Anna.”

He held the envelope tightly.

“I kept it for twenty years.”

“Why?”

Victor looked down.

The answer took time.

“Because she was the only person who ever made me feel human.”

Nobody expected that.

Not even Ethan.

Victor continued.

“She hated what the Vale family became.”

A pause.

“She hated what I became.”

Daniel stared.

“And you still protected the letter?”

Victor looked at him.

“I protected the only proof that someone once believed I could change.”

The room became quiet.

Daniel slowly took the envelope.

Inside was another letter.

Anna’s handwriting.

My son,

If you are reading this, then Victor finally failed to keep you hidden.

Daniel felt his chest tighten.

Your life was never meant to belong to the Vale family.

You were never created to continue their legacy.

You were created to end it.

A tear appeared in the corner of his eye.

Not because of sadness.

Because for the first time…

he felt like he understood his mother.

The letter continued.

But remember this.

Destroying something is easy.

Building something better is the real challenge.

Daniel looked up.

Those words felt familiar.

Emily.

Anna.

Two women separated by years.

Both saying the same thing.

Power was not the answer.

Choice was.

Suddenly, the estate shook.

Everyone looked around.

“What was that?” Lily asked.

Marcus moved toward the window.

His face changed.

“People are coming.”

Daniel looked outside.

Multiple vehicles.

More than before.

Victor stared.

“They found us.”

Ethan looked at him.

“Your people?”

Victor shook his head.

“No.”

A pause.

“Not mine.”

Daniel noticed the fear return.

“Then whose?”

Victor looked at the approaching vehicles.

And whispered a name.

A name nobody expected.

“The Black Circle.”

Marcus turned pale.

“No.”

Daniel looked at him.

“What?”

Marcus stared at the road.

“The group that Alexander created before the Vale empire.”

Daniel frowned.

“I thought they were gone.”

Victor’s voice was quiet.

“They were never gone.”

The vehicles stopped outside.

Doors opened.

People stepped out.

Not police.

Not criminals.

Something else.

Something older.

Something that had existed before Victor.

Before Ethan.

Before Daniel knew the truth.

Victor looked at Daniel.

For the first time, he wasn’t an enemy.

He was someone warning him.

“They’re not here for the journal.”

Daniel tightened his grip.

“Then what do they want?”

Victor looked at Lily.

Everyone followed his eyes.

The answer became clear.

They weren’t hunting the evidence.

They weren’t hunting the Vale family.

They were hunting the last person who could expose them.

Daniel stepped in front of Lily.

Again.

The same place he had stood from the beginning.

Between danger and a child.

But this time, he understood something.

The enemy was no longer one man.

It was an entire system.

And to defeat it…

he would have to destroy the very world his blood created.

The front doors of the estate opened.

A stranger walked inside.

An old symbol was carved onto his hand.

The same symbol from Daniel’s hidden room.

He looked at Daniel.

And smiled.

“Alexander Vale’s final mistake.”

A pause.

“His grandson.”

Daniel stared.

“Who are you?”

The man smiled.

“The person who has been protecting the Vale empire from the shadows.”

He stepped forward.

“And the person who will make sure you never destroy it.”

The war had changed.

Victor Vale was no longer the final enemy.

May you like

He was only the beginning.

And Daniel Cross was about to face the true power behind everything.
