Chapter 11 - Nobody moved.Claire stood in the doorway.

Her clothes were torn.

Blood streaked her cheek.

The gun shook in her hand.

Daniel stared at her.

“You think I killed Emily?”

Claire's eyes filled with tears.

“I saw the footage.”

“You saw a fake version of me.”

“I saw you enter the room.”

“Then look again.”

Claire hesitated.

Harris stepped forward.

“Claire, lower the weapon.”

“No.”

“You've been manipulated.”

She shook her head.

“He showed me everything.”

“Who?”

“Martin.”

Daniel felt his stomach drop.

“What did he show you?”

Claire's voice cracked.

“A video of you drugging Emily.”

Daniel went still.

The old woman whispered:

“It's fake.”

Claire looked at her.

“How do you know?”

“Because your husband learned how to imitate Daniel's face years ago.”

Claire blinked.

“My husband?”

“Martin.”

Silence.

Claire looked at Daniel.

Then at Harris.

Then the video on her phone.

She pressed play.

A man who looked exactly like Daniel walked into Emily's bedroom.

He held a syringe.

Emily lay unconscious.

He injected her.

Then he walked away.

Claire looked sick.

Daniel stepped forward.

“That isn't me.”

She whispered:

“I know.”

The gun lowered.

The warehouse doors exploded inward.

Men in black entered.

Harris fired.

Everyone scattered.

Daniel grabbed his mother.

Emily ducked behind a crate.

Claire ran.

The attackers moved toward the old woman.

“Get her!”

Daniel fought the first man.

He struck him in the face.

The man dropped.

Another attacker charged.

Harris took him down.

Then the warehouse lights came on.

Every screen in the building activated.

Martin appeared.

“This ends tonight.”

Daniel shouted:

“Show yourself!”

Martin smiled.

“You still don't understand the point.”

“What?”

“You keep trying to find the man responsible.”

Martin's expression changed.

“There isn't one.”

Daniel froze.

“There's a system.”

He looked toward the shelves.

“Your father?”

“Me.”

“Thomas Bell?”

“Me.”

“Dr. Shaw?”

“A frightened employee.”

“Claire's kidnapping?”

Martin smiled.

“Mine.”

Daniel shouted:

“What do you want?”

Martin answered:

“The inheritance.”

Daniel laughed bitterly.

“You already control the company.”

“Not the trust.”

Daniel went silent.

The Whitmore family trust was worth hundreds of millions.

But Emily controlled the final voting shares.

Martin continued.

“She was the only person who could unlock them.”

Emily stepped from behind the crate.

“You killed people for money.”

Martin shook his head.

“No.”

He smiled.

“I killed them to protect the family.”

Emily stared.

“The family destroyed itself.”

Martin looked at her.

“Then perhaps you should ask your mother.”

Emily froze.

Her mother.

Dead for years.

Martin's voice softened.

“She wasn't your mother.”

Daniel turned toward Emily.

“What does he mean?”

Emily's face went white.

Martin laughed.

“You were adopted.”

Emily stared at the screen.

“No.”

Martin continued.

“Your real mother was one of the doctors.”

Claire whispered:

“Dr. Shaw?”

“No.”

Martin smiled.

“Someone much closer.”

He paused.

Then the warehouse doors opened.

A woman walked in.

Gray hair.

Dark coat.

Everyone turned.

Emily stared at her.

Her face collapsed.

“Mara?”

Daniel frowned.

“Who is that?”

Emily could barely breathe.

“My mother.”

Claire looked at the woman.

“But you said she died.”

The woman smiled sadly.

“I was told to let my daughter believe that.”

Emily took one step forward.

“Why?”

The woman looked at Martin.

“Because he promised he would spare you.”

Martin smiled.

Then he said something that made everyone freeze.

“He lied.”

A gunshot cracked through the warehouse.

The woman fell.

Emily screamed.

May you like

And from somewhere in the darkness, a second gunman whispered:

“Now there are no witnesses.”
