Chapter 14: The Last Secret of Marco Moretti

The photograph stayed on Adrian's phone for seventeen minutes.

He didn't move.

Didn't speak.

Didn't blink.

Because after everything he had discovered...

After Elena.

After Luca.

After Gabriel.

He thought there was nothing left that could surprise him.

He was wrong.

Again.

The picture showed a hospital room.

A newborn child.

A crying woman.

And his father.

Marco Moretti.

Holding the baby.

Not standing away.

Not hiding.

Holding the child like a father.

Like someone who loved him.

The sight hurt more than Adrian expected.

Because it proved something.

His father was capable of love.

He just kept choosing who received it.

Vincent entered the room.

"Adrian?"

No response.

He looked at the screen.

His expression changed immediately.

"Another one?"

Adrian finally spoke.

"How many children did my father have?"

Vincent didn't answer.

Because there was no answer.

Not one anyone trusted.

The entire team began searching.

Again.

Another secret.

Another hidden life.

Another person erased from the Moretti family history.

But this time...

Something was different.

The image wasn't old.

The location was visible.

A hospital.

A date.

A name.

They had something.

And for the first time in days...

They had a direction.

The hospital had closed twelve years earlier.

The records were supposedly destroyed.

Supposedly.

Adrian had learned one thing from his father.

Nothing truly disappeared.

People simply stopped looking.

The investigation led them to an old employee.

A retired nurse named Clara Bennett.

She had worked at the hospital for twenty years.

When Adrian showed her the photograph...

Her hands started shaking.

"You know him."

She looked at Marco's picture.

"I knew many things about him."

"What child was he holding?"

The woman's eyes filled with sadness.

"I wondered when someone would finally ask."

Clara opened an old storage box.

Inside were letters.

Documents.

A small bracelet.

The name engraved on it:

Noah.

Adrian stared.

"Who is Noah?"

The nurse looked at him.

"Your brother."

The words were almost becoming familiar.

Almost.

But they still hurt.

"Tell me everything."

Clara took a breath.

"Your father came here fifteen years ago."

"Alone."

"Terrified."

Adrian frowned.

"My father?"

"Yes."

"He was never afraid."

The nurse gave him a sad smile.

"Everyone is afraid of something."

A pause.

"He was afraid of losing his son."

The story began to unfold.

Noah was born from a relationship Marco had before Adrian knew the truth about his father's world.

But unlike Elena and Luca...

Noah wasn't hidden because of shame.

He was hidden because of danger.

"Who was after him?"

Clara looked down.

"Volkov."

Adrian's expression hardened.

"Again."

"Volkov discovered Noah existed."

"Why?"

"Because Noah had something."

"What?"

She opened a letter.

Inside was a handwritten note from Marco.

The truth about everything is with Noah.

Adrian froze.

"What truth?"

Clara looked at him.

"The truth your father spent his life hiding."

The search for Noah began.

But unlike the others...

Noah wasn't missing.

He was living quietly.

A small town.

A normal job.

A normal life.

The kind of life Adrian had always wanted for Lily.

No security.

No enemies.

No fear.

And that was the strangest part.

Why would Marco protect one child by giving him a normal life...

while hiding the others?

Adrian found Noah at a small bookstore.

No bodyguards.

No weapons.

No dramatic entrance.

Just a man arranging books.

A man who looked nothing like the monster people described.

When Noah saw Adrian...

He immediately knew.

"You finally came."

Adrian stopped.

"You knew?"

Noah smiled sadly.

"Yes."

"How?"

"Because I knew one day you would find the truth."

A pause.

"My father always believed you would."

They sat in the back room.

Noah looked at Adrian carefully.

"You hate him."

Adrian didn't answer.

"That's okay."

"No."

Adrian looked at him.

"I don't know what I feel anymore."

Noah nodded.

"That's more honest."

"My father told me about you."

Adrian frowned.

"When?"

"Before he died."

"What did he say?"

Noah looked at the floor.

"He said you were the strongest person he knew."

Adrian almost laughed.

"My father?"

"Yes."

"He never said that to me."

"I know."

"Why?"

Noah looked up.

"Because he was afraid."

"Of me?"

"No."

A pause.

"Of admitting he was wrong."

Noah revealed the final piece.

Marco Moretti had built a secret archive.

Not money.

Not weapons.

Information.

Everything he had collected about Volkov.

Every crime.

Every connection.

Every person involved.

The reason Volkov had spent decades trying to destroy the Moretti family wasn't because of business.

It was because Marco knew the truth.

And he had hidden it.

Inside his children.

"Each of us had a piece."

Adrian looked confused.

"What?"

"No one person knew everything."

Noah continued.

"Elena knew Volkov's operations."

"Luca knew the financial network."

"I knew where the archive was hidden."

Adrian understood.

"And me?"

Noah looked at him.

"You had the key."

"What key?"

"The reason our father chose you."

Noah handed him an old envelope.

Inside was a letter.

Another one.

From Marco.

Adrian opened it.

Adrian,

If you are reading this, then my children have finally found each other.

That is the only thing I ever wanted.

Adrian stopped.

His eyes tightened.

I spent my life believing control was protection.

I was wrong.

Protection without trust becomes a prison.

I built a prison around everyone I loved.

And eventually, everyone escaped.

Adrian continued reading.

You were never my strongest child because you could fight.

You were strongest because you still had the ability to love after everything I taught you.

His hands trembled.

That is why I trusted you with the final key.

Not because you were like me.

Because you weren't.

At the bottom of the letter was one sentence.

The sentence that broke through every wall Adrian had built.

Forgive me if you can.

But never become me.

That night...

All four siblings gathered.

Adrian.

Elena.

Luca.

Noah.

Four children.

Four different stories.

One father.

For years they believed they were separated because they were unwanted.

Now they understood.

They were separated because their father was terrified.

Not of losing power.

Of losing them.

But the truth came with a cost.

Vincent arrived with urgent news.

"We found Volkov."

Everyone turned.

"Where?"

Vincent placed a file on the table.

"The old Moretti estate."

Adrian froze.

"My father's house?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

Vincent looked at the documents.

"Because he knows where the archive is."

Adrian stood.

"Then we go."

Noah shook his head.

"Wait."

Everyone looked at him.

"There is something else."

"What?"

Noah opened another file.

Inside was a final message from Marco.

A warning.

One sentence.

If Volkov reaches the archive, he will not only destroy the Moretti family.

A pause.

He will destroy the entire city.

At midnight...

The old Moretti mansion stood in darkness.

Volkov walked through the halls.

The same halls where Adrian had grown up.

The same halls where secrets were buried.

He reached the hidden room beneath the house.

A room no one knew existed.

Except him.

He smiled.

"After all these years..."

He touched the locked door.

"Marco."

"You still thought you could win."

Behind the door was the archive.

The truth.

The weapon.

The final piece.

Then his phone rang.

He answered.

A voice spoke.

"It's done."

Volkov smiled.

"Good."

"What about Adrian?"

Volkov looked toward the mansion entrance.

Where Adrian's car had just arrived.

"No."

A pause.

"Now..."

May you like

"...the real battle begins."
