Chapter 11 - The Girl the System RecognizedThe Heir Was Never AlexanderThe room fell silent.

Alexander couldn't move.

Daniel stared at the screen.

Elena whispered:

“Why does it recognize her?”

The computer spoke.

“Identity confirmed.”

Sofie's photograph appeared.

SOFIA ELENA CARTER.

Alexander looked at Daniel.

“You never told me her full name was Carter.”

Daniel swallowed.

“Because I didn't know.”

Elena shook her head.

“William changed her birth registration.”

Alexander looked back at the system.

The computer displayed a second message.

GENETIC LINE VERIFIED.

Daniel stepped closer.

“How?”

The screen showed two matches.

DANIEL CARTER.

WILLIAM CARTER.

Then another:

ALEXANDER CARTER.

Alexander's eyes widened.

“What is that?”

The system was comparing family DNA.

Sofie was unquestionably a Carter.

The room shook.

Above them, alarms began screaming.

Richard's voice came through.

“Open the safe!”

Alexander stared at the screen.

Five minutes had become two.

Daniel looked at him.

“We don't have time.”

Alexander shook his head.

“We don't need time.”

He pointed to the authorization.

“It needs the heir.”

Daniel frowned.

“And?”

Alexander looked at Sofie.

“She's the heir.”

Elena stepped back.

“No.”

“It's already confirmed.”

“What does that mean?”

Alexander opened William's final file.

A legal document appeared.

At the top:

SUCCESSION OF CARTER HOLDINGS.

Beneficiary:

Sofia Elena Carter.

Alexander read further.

If the current chairman is removed for misconduct, ownership shall automatically pass to the youngest verified descendant.

Not Alexander.

Not Richard.

Sofie.

A three-year-old child.

Richard had spent years fighting for the company without realizing the company legally belonged to someone who couldn't yet tie her own shoes.

Alexander almost laughed.

Then the safe alarm changed.

The system announced:

EXTERNAL OVERRIDE DETECTED.

Daniel's face hardened.

“Kane.”

The safe door began closing.

Alexander grabbed the handle.

“It’s trying to seal itself.”

Sofie shouted:

“Don't!”

He stopped.

“What?”

She pointed underneath the safe.

A small red light was blinking.

“That's the bad one.”

Alexander looked closer.

There was a device attached to the locking mechanism.

A remote explosive.

Kane had planted it.

Daniel pulled Elena away.

“Back!”

Alexander took a step.

The timer started.

00:59

Elena screamed.

“Alexander!”

He looked at Sofie.

She was staring at the device.

“It has a loose wire.”

Alexander crouched.

“Where?”

She pointed.

“Blue.”

He saw it.

The blue wire was barely connected.

Alexander pulled it free.

The timer stopped.

Everyone froze.

Then the screen flashed.

MANUAL RELEASE AVAILABLE.

Alexander pressed it.

Every file in the chamber appeared on the monitors.

Names.

Payments.

Recordings.

Bank transfers.

Photographs.

Evidence.

The entire Kane network.

Daniel stared.

“We did it.”

Alexander shook his head.

“No.”

He pointed upward.

“We haven't.”

Richard burst through the chamber door.

He was holding a gun.

Behind him stood Elias Kane.

The man with the red watch.

Kane looked at Sofie.

“Give me the child.”

Alexander stepped forward.

“No.”

Kane smiled.

“Then I take the company.”

Richard raised his weapon.

Kane stopped him.

“No.”

Richard looked confused.

Kane walked toward Sofie.

“I don't want your money.”

He looked at Alexander.

“I want your family.”

Daniel stepped in front of Elena.

Kane smiled.

“You still don't understand.”

Then he removed his watch.

Underneath it was a scar.

The same scar Daniel had carried for thirteen years.

Daniel went pale.

Kane whispered:

“You thought your brother was the only one who survived.”

Alexander stared.

“What?”

May you like

Kane's smile widened.

“Your father had three sons.”
