Chapter 12 - The PasswordLily knew the password.

Nobody understood how.

Until Clara remembered something.

When Lily was two years old, Grace had taught her a game.

Four numbers.

Four colors.

A sequence.

Clara thought it was a nursery game.

It wasn't.

It was the authentication key for the Whitmore trust.

Robert had hidden the password inside Lily's memory.

Alexander wanted it.

Madison wanted it destroyed.

Robert wanted it transferred.

And everyone had underestimated one thing.

Lily remembered everything.

Ethan sat beside her.

“Lily, do you remember the game Grandma Grace taught you?”

She nodded.

“Red. Blue. Seven. Three.”

Everyone stared.

The system unlocked.

A hidden account appeared.

Billions of dollars.

Trusts.

Property.

Offshore holdings.

And one file labeled:

FINAL CONTINGENCY.

Ethan opened it.

A video of Robert appeared.

“If you're seeing this, then the trust has been activated.”

He looked straight into the camera.

“You may believe I created this to protect my family.”

Ethan stared.

“But I created it to destroy anyone who betrayed me.”

Robert smiled.

“That includes Grace.”

The video continued.

“Lily is not the heir.”

Ethan frowned.

“She is the trigger.”

A map appeared.

Locations across the world.

Banks.

Warehouses.

Private accounts.

Then one final location.

A cemetery.

Ethan recognized it.

His mother's grave.

“What the hell…”

The screen changed.

A second message appeared.

THE ORIGINAL WILL IS BURIED UNDER GRACE WHITMORE.

Ethan felt cold.

Grace stared at the screen.

“I thought it was destroyed.”

“It wasn't.”

A gunshot shattered the monitor.

Everyone ducked.

Alexander had entered the mansion.

“Give me the child!”

Ethan grabbed Lily.

They ran.

Madison stayed behind.

Alexander entered the room.

“You've made this difficult.”

Madison raised her gun.

“No.”

Alexander stared at her.

“You won't shoot me.”

“You’re right.”

She lowered the weapon.

Then fired at the ceiling.

The sprinkler system exploded.

Water poured across the floor.

Lights flickered.

Ethan dragged Lily through the kitchen.

Clara followed.

Grace stayed behind.

“Mom!”

Ethan shouted.

Grace looked at him.

“Go!”

Robert's voice echoed through the mansion.

“You should have listened to me.”

Ethan stopped.

Robert appeared at the end of the corridor.

No guards.

No gun.

Only a smile.

“You've always been predictable.”

Ethan aimed.

“You killed people.”

Robert shook his head.

“I eliminated obstacles.”

“You killed Mom.”

“No.”

Robert's smile faded.

“Your mother is alive because I let her live.”

Ethan stared.

“What?”

Robert looked at Grace.

“She knows what I mean.”

Grace began trembling.

Robert continued.

“She made one mistake.”

“What?”

“She believed Lily was the secret.”

He looked at Ethan.

“She wasn't.”

Ethan's heart sank.

“Then what is?”

Robert smiled.

“Your identity.”

Ethan frowned.

“My identity?”

Robert whispered:

“You are not Robert Whitmore's biological son.”

Silence.

Ethan lowered the gun.

“What?”

Robert smiled.

“Ask Grace who your real father is.”

Grace burst into tears.

May you like

And behind Ethan, Madison whispered:

“Don't.”
