Chapter 11 - The Father No One SuspectedThe man in the recording was Alexander Vale.

Madison’s uncle.

Ethan had met him many times.

A respected philanthropist.

A quiet investor.

A man who had publicly mourned Victor’s death.

But the footage showed something different.

Alexander and Grace had been meeting secretly.

They had been lovers.

And Lily was their daughter.

Ethan stared at the screen.

“That means…”

Grace nodded.

“Yes.”

Lily was not Ethan’s sister.

She was his niece.

Alexander was her biological father.

Madison’s cousin.

Grace’s secret daughter.

But there was more.

Grace looked at Ethan.

“Your father discovered the affair.”

“And?”

“He used Lily as leverage.”

“For what?”

“To control Alexander.”

Ethan shook his head.

“This is insane.”

“No.”

Grace pointed at the screen.

“Look.”

Another clip began.

Alexander holding baby Lily.

Robert entered.

He placed a document on the table.

“The trust is now in the child’s name.”

Alexander stared.

“You promised me control.”

“I changed my mind.”

Grace stepped forward.

“You can't do this.”

Robert smiled.

“The child doesn't need to know who her father is.”

Then the recording stopped.

Ethan looked at Lily.

She was asleep in Clara's arms.

Everything had become more complicated.

Then Madison entered.

She carried a hard drive.

“I found this.”

Ethan took it.

“What is it?”

“Proof against Robert.”

“Why give it to me?”

“Because I'm done running.”

She looked at Clara.

“I am sorry.”

Clara didn't answer.

Madison turned toward Ethan.

“There is another problem.”

“What?”

“Alexander is coming.”

Ethan frowned.

“Why?”

“He wants Lily.”

“Why?”

Madison swallowed.

“Because he believes the trust can restore his family's fortune.”

Grace whispered:

“He has already killed once to get it.”

The mansion lights suddenly went out.

A phone rang.

Ethan answered.

A voice whispered:

“You have ten minutes.”

“Who is this?”

“You know.”

The call ended.

Ethan looked at the clock.

10:12.

He checked the security monitors.

A black convoy had entered the estate.

Six vehicles.

Armed men.

And one man stepping out of the lead car.

Alexander Vale.

He looked directly at the mansion.

Then he raised a phone.

The building’s speakers came alive.

“Ethan.”

Ethan stepped toward the window.

“What do you want?”

“Lily.”

“No.”

Alexander smiled.

“Then I'll take the mansion apart brick by brick.”

Ethan’s jaw tightened.

Alexander continued.

“You don't understand what you're protecting.”

“What is that?”

“The child doesn't merely control the trust.”

He paused.

“She knows the password.”

Ethan looked at Lily.

“She’s five.”

Alexander laughed.

“Exactly.”

Then he whispered:

“She learned it before she could even speak.”
