CHAPTER 14 The Final Game Amelia Created

The words echoed through the vault.
“Amelia Bellweather asked me to become the villain.”
Nobody understood.
Not Corin.
Not Thomas.
Not Adrian.
Not even Elena.
Judge Miriam Caskey stood in the center of the room, surrounded by years of secrets, and for the first time, she looked exhausted.
Not like a criminal caught.
Like someone who had carried a burden too heavy for too long.
Corin stared at her.
“My mother asked you to do this?”
Miriam nodded slowly.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
The judge looked at him.
“Because your mother knew exactly what Lorraine would do.”
Corin shook his head.
“She knew?”
“Yes.”
“She knew Lorraine would try to take Rory?”
“Yes.”
“She knew she would attack me?”
Miriam’s eyes filled with regret.
“Yes.”
The answers hurt.
Because every answer meant his parents had been preparing for a war they never told him about.
Corin’s voice became quiet.
“Then why didn’t they tell me?”
Miriam looked down.
“Because your mother wanted you to have one thing.”
“What?”
“A normal childhood.”
Corin almost laughed.
But there was no humor in it.
“Normal?”
He looked around the vault.
“At this point, I don’t even know what normal means.”
Nobody responded.
Because he was right.
Thomas still held the document.
The bank transfer.
The evidence that appeared to prove Miriam was connected to Lorraine.
He looked at her.
“Then explain this.”
Miriam nodded.
“I will.”
She walked toward the table.
“Twenty years ago, when Daniel discovered Victor Blackthorne’s plans, he knew the Bellweather family was surrounded by enemies.”
She looked at Adrian.
“Victor wanted revenge.”
Then at Elena.
“Lorraine wanted power.”
Then at Thomas.
“And someone else wanted control.”
Corin frowned.
“Someone else?”
Miriam nodded.
“Your mother discovered there was another person moving behind all of them.”
The room became tense.
“Who?”
Miriam looked at the ceiling.
“Your grandfather.”
Corin froze.
“My grandfather?”
“Yes.”
Thomas looked shocked.
“But he died years ago.”
“Yes.”
Miriam looked at the documents.
“But his influence did not.”
She explained.
“Before his death, Edward Bellweather created a private network of loyal employees, lawyers, and investors.”
Corin listened.
“A network designed to keep control of the company even after he was gone.”
Adrian clenched his jaw.
“So Victor was not the only one trying to manipulate things.”
“No.”
Miriam shook her head.
“Victor wanted revenge.”
She paused.
“But Edward wanted the Bellweather empire to survive at any cost.”
Corin felt sick.
His family history was not a story about wealth.
It was a story about people destroying each other for control.
Miriam continued.
“Your mother found evidence that someone inside the court was being paid.”
Thomas looked at the transfer.
“You.”
Miriam nodded.
“Yes.”
Corin stepped back.
“So it was true.”
Miriam looked at him.
“I received the money.”
The confession shocked everyone.
“But not for Lorraine.”
She opened her bag.
Inside was another folder.
“The account was created under my name because Amelia needed someone Victor’s people would believe was corrupt.”
Thomas frowned.
“Why?”
“Because if they thought I was compromised, they would stop watching the real investigation.”
Corin looked confused.
“Then why make me think you were helping Lorraine?”
Miriam looked at him.
“Because Lorraine needed to believe she was winning.”
The judge opened the folder.
Inside were copies of hidden reports.
“Every time Lorraine gave false evidence, I collected it.”
“Every time she contacted someone, I recorded it.”
“Every time she tried to separate you and Rory…”
Miriam looked at Corin.
“I documented it.”
Corin stared.
“So you let her attack me?”
The question hurt more than any accusation.
Miriam lowered her head.
“Yes.”
The honesty shocked him.
“I hated myself for it.”
She looked at him.
“But Amelia believed the only way to defeat Lorraine was to let Lorraine reveal herself.”
Corin looked away.
He understood.
But understanding did not erase the pain.
Then Adrian spoke.
“There is still something missing.”
Everyone turned.
He looked at Miriam.
“You said Amelia discovered someone else.”
Miriam nodded.
“Yes.”
“Who?”
The judge hesitated.
Then she looked at Corin.
“Someone who knew Daniel better than anyone.”
Corin felt cold.
“Who?”
Miriam did not answer immediately.
Instead, she reached into the folder.
She pulled out a photograph.
A recent photograph.
Everyone looked.
And everyone froze.
Because the person in the picture was someone they knew.
Someone who had been helping them.
Someone who had been searching for answers.
Someone who had been close enough to influence everything.
The photograph showed:
Evelyn Hartwell.
Corin turned slowly.
“No.”
Evelyn stood frozen.
Her face lost all color.
“Corin…”
“No.”
His voice became smaller.
“You too?”
Evelyn looked devastated.
“I can explain.”
The words hit him like a knife.
Everyone said that.
Everyone had explanations.
Everyone had reasons.
But the secrets kept coming.
Corin stepped back.
“Were you part of it?”
Evelyn’s eyes filled with tears.
“Yes.”
The room froze.
Corin looked like he had been hit.
“Why?”
Evelyn whispered:
“Because your parents asked me.”
That answer changed everything.
Again.
Evelyn walked toward the table.
“I knew Daniel before you were born.”
Corin looked away.
“I know.”
“No.”
She shook her head.
“You don’t know how much.”
She opened another file.
Inside were letters.
Dozens of them.
From Daniel.
To Evelyn.
Corin stared.
“You were helping him.”
“Yes.”
“With what?”
“Protecting you.”
The answer came immediately.
Evelyn looked at Rory’s photograph.
“Your parents knew if anything happened, Lorraine would come after the trust.”
She looked at Corin.
“But they also knew Lorraine would come after you.”
“Why me?”
“Because you were the key.”
Corin frowned.
“The key to what?”
Evelyn looked at Thomas.
Then Adrian.
Then Miriam.
Finally, Corin.
“The Bellweather trust was never just money.”
Everyone became silent.
“What was it?”
Evelyn answered:
“Your parents changed the trust before they died.”
Thomas looked shocked.
“They changed it?”
“Yes.”
“How?”
Evelyn looked at Corin.
“They made it impossible for anyone to control.”
Corin stared.
“Then why did everyone fight over it?”
“Because everyone thought the trust was the prize.”
A pause.
“But they were wrong.”
She placed the final document on the table.
“The trust was a trap.”
The room froze.
Corin read the first line.
BELLWEATHER FAMILY TRUST: FINAL BENEFICIARY PROTECTION CLAUSE
His eyes widened.
“What is this?”
Evelyn answered:
“A test.”
“A test?”
“Yes.”
She looked at him.
“Your parents wanted to know who truly cared about you and Rory.”
Corin looked confused.
“The money…”
“Was never meant to reward anyone.”
She pointed at the document.
“It was designed to expose anyone who wanted it.”
Then every screen inside the vault suddenly turned on.
Everyone turned.
A video began playing.
Daniel Bellweather appeared.
But this time, he looked calm.
Like he knew this moment would come.
Corin stepped closer.
His father smiled sadly.
“Corin.”
A pause.
“If you are seeing this, then you found the final door.”
Corin’s eyes filled.
Daniel continued.
“I know you are angry.”
A small smile.
“You should be.”
The room became silent.
“Because I failed you in one way.”
Daniel looked directly into the camera.
“I thought protecting you meant hiding the truth.”
He paused.
“I was wrong.”
Corin wiped his eyes.
Then Daniel said the sentence that changed everything:
“The person who betrayed this family…”
The screen flickered.
Everyone leaned closer.
Daniel continued:
“Was not Lorraine.”
A pause.
“Was not Victor.”
A pause.
“Was not Adrian.”
Everyone froze.
Daniel looked straight ahead.
“It was someone who believed they were saving us.”
The video ended.
And beneath the screen…
A hidden message appeared.
A single name.
The final truth.
The person who started everything.
May you like
AMELIA BELLWEATHER.
