Chapter 13 - THE HEIRThe Secret Her Parents BuriedThe underground chamber stretched farther than the mansion above it.

Rows of servers hummed in the darkness.

Screens displayed names.

Bank accounts.

Property records.

Encrypted messages.

Government contracts.

Private security operations.

And thousands of photographs.

Anna stood frozen.

"This is what they wanted?"

Sylvester looked around.

"This is what your grandfather built."

Anna shook her head.

"I don't want it."

Elena laughed.

"You don't get to choose."

Sylvester stepped between them.

"She always gets to choose."

Elena looked at him.

"You still think you are protecting your children."

"I am."

"You don't understand what she is capable of."

"She's eleven."

"Exactly."

Elena pressed a button.

A screen appeared.

Anna's genetic sequence.

It was far more complex than Noah's or Daniel's.

The system identified her as a unique biological key.

But then another file appeared.

SUBJECT ORIGIN.

Sylvester opened it.

His face changed.

The genetic template had been created twenty-two years earlier.

Before Noah was born.

Before Anna.

Before his marriage.

It belonged to a woman he had never met.

Sylvester looked at Sarah.

"Who is this?"

Sarah stared at the screen.

"Your wife's mother."

Sylvester's expression froze.

"She was involved?"

"She started Project Mirror."

"And my wife?"

"She tried to destroy it."

Noah looked at Anna.

"That's why they took us."

Sarah nodded.

"They needed Anna to complete what her grandmother started."

Daniel appeared on the main monitor.

"I have another problem."

Sylvester looked up.

"What?"

"Victor isn't the leader."

Victor stepped forward.

Everyone turned.

"What did you say?"

Daniel continued:

"Victor works for someone else."

Elena's face hardened.

"Stop."

Daniel ignored her.

"The person who ordered the twins separated is still alive."

Sylvester asked:

"Who?"

Daniel hesitated.

Then:

"Your father."

Silence.

Sylvester stared.

"My father died years ago."

Daniel shook his head.

"His death was staged."

Victor lunged toward the control panel.

Sarah stopped him.

He pulled a knife.

They fought.

Sylvester looked back at the screen.

An encrypted file opened.

A security recording appeared.

An older man sat in a wheelchair.

His face was unmistakably Sylvester's father.

He looked directly into the camera.

"My son."

Sylvester could barely breathe.

"If you're watching this, then the plan failed."

The old man continued.

"I built the trust because I knew the world would eventually try to control our family."

He paused.

"But I made one mistake."

His eyes darkened.

"I trusted the wrong child."

Sylvester froze.

The recording continued.

"Your children were never the target."

Sylvester's voice cracked.

"Then who was?"

The man looked toward the camera.

"You."

The screen went black.

Sylvester stared.

Then another file opened automatically.

A genetic scan.

His own.

The system marked him:

ORIGINAL KEY.

Anna was not the primary heir.

She was an amplifier.

Noah was the biological anchor.

Daniel was the synthetic bridge.

But Sylvester himself was the master key.

Everything was designed around him.

The photograph.

The broken frame.

The hidden files.

The fake death.

The stolen child.

All of it.

A single plan.

To force Sylvester back into the network.

Elena whispered:

"We needed you angry enough to come looking."

Sylvester turned toward her.

"You destroyed my family."

"No."

She smiled.

"We revealed it."

Victor suddenly shouted:

"Get down!"

A sniper bullet ripped through the server room.

Victor collapsed.

Every screen went black.

Then one message appeared across the room.

PHASE THREE: FATHER REMOVED.

Sylvester looked at Noah.

"Run."

They moved.

Behind them, the server room erupted in flames.

Sarah grabbed Anna.

Daniel shouted through the speakers.

"LEFT!"

Sylvester took the left corridor.

A blast door slammed behind them.

They were trapped in a narrow passage.

Smoke filled the air.

Noah coughed.

"Dad!"

Sylvester grabbed his shoulder.

"I've got you."

Then they heard footsteps.

Slow.

Calm.

Coming through the smoke.

A man emerged.

Older.

Gray hair.

A familiar face.

Sylvester stared.

His father had been dead for eleven years.

But the man standing in front of him was smiling.

"Hello, son."
