Chapter 1 - THE BROKEN FRAMEThe Photograph She Finally DestroyedThe boy carried one photograph of his father everywhere.

It was small, old, and protected by a cracked wooden frame that had been repaired so many times the corners no longer met properly.
His name was Noah.
He was eleven years old, thin for his age, quiet around adults, and almost painfully protective of the photograph.
Nobody in the mansion understood why.
Nobody except Noah.
The photograph had been given to him by his father years earlier, before everything changed.
Before the lawyers.
Before the locked rooms.
Before Noah's stepmother started telling him that his father no longer wanted him.
The picture showed Sylvester Stallone kneeling beside Noah when he was barely five.
Noah remembered that day.
His father had taken him hiking.
They had eaten sandwiches near a lake.
Sylvester had laughed when Noah tried to catch a fish with his bare hands.
Most importantly, Sylvester had promised him something.
"I always come back."
Noah believed those words.
Even after Sylvester stopped visiting.
Even after Evelyn, Noah's stepmother, insisted that his father was too busy to care.
Even after months became years.
The photograph became Noah's proof.
His father had once loved him.
That was why Evelyn hated it.
"Give me that."
Noah froze.
Evelyn stood at the top of the marble staircase, wearing a cream-colored dress and a cold expression.
"No."
"I said give it to me."
Noah tightened his fingers around the frame.
"You said Dad was coming home."
Evelyn's smile disappeared.
"He isn't."
"You said that last Christmas."
"And I was right."
Noah stepped backward.
The mansion was enormous, but suddenly it felt like there was nowhere to hide.
"I want to talk to him."
"You don't get to demand things from your father."
"He promised."
Something flickered across Evelyn's face.
Fear.
It vanished almost immediately.
Then she walked down two stairs.
"You've kept that ridiculous photograph long enough."
Noah backed away.
"No."
Evelyn reached for it.
He pulled it against his chest.
The frame cracked.
"No!"
Evelyn yanked.
The photograph slipped from Noah's hands.
For one terrible second, it hung between them.
Then she threw it down the staircase.
The frame struck the marble.
Once.
Twice.
Then shattered.
Noah stared at the broken pieces.
He stopped breathing.
Evelyn folded her arms.
"Your father is never coming back."
Noah dropped to his knees.
His hands trembled as he reached for the photograph.
A shard had cut through the frame.
The picture itself looked unharmed.
Then the mansion doors opened.
Three security guards entered.
One stepped aside.
A tall figure walked through the doorway.
Dark jacket.
Gray hair.
A face Noah had spent years trying to remember from dreams.
Sylvester Stallone.
Noah's head snapped upward.
"Dad?"
Sylvester stopped.
His eyes moved from Noah to the shattered frame.
Then to Evelyn.
Silence filled the mansion.
Evelyn recovered first.
Her voice became soft.
"Sylvester."
He didn't answer.
Noah rushed toward him.
But one of the guards raised a hand, unsure whether to intervene.
Sylvester lowered his eyes to the boy.
Noah looked terrified.
"She broke it."
Evelyn immediately stepped forward.
"Noah has been upset all evening. He dropped it himself."
Noah shook his head.
"She did it."
Evelyn's expression hardened.
"He has been having episodes."
Sylvester looked at her.
"What did you just say?"
"I only meant that he's confused."
Noah grabbed Sylvester's sleeve.
"She said you didn't want me."
Sylvester's face changed.
Not dramatically.
Not loudly.
Just enough for Evelyn to notice.
"I said I'd come back," he whispered.
Noah's eyes filled.
"You took too long."
Sylvester crouched.
"I know."
Noah suddenly wrapped both arms around him.
For a moment, the mansion disappeared.
Then Sylvester noticed the photograph.
He picked it up.
The frame had split open.
Something dark was visible beneath the backing.
Sylvester frowned.
He turned the photograph over.
A thin layer of cardboard had peeled away.
Behind it was a folded document.
His name was written across the front.
S. STALLONE.
The handwriting was unmistakably his father's lawyer's.
Sylvester stared.
"Where did this come from?"
Evelyn went pale.
"It must have been hidden there for years."
Sylvester unfolded the first page.
His eyes moved across the text.
His breathing slowed.
The document was dated eleven years earlier.
The day Noah was born.
At the bottom was a sentence underlined twice.
THE CHILD REGISTERED AS NOAH STALLONE IS NOT THE ONLY CHILD BORN UNDER THE STALLONE FAMILY FILE.
Sylvester looked up.
"Where's the rest?"
Evelyn didn't answer.
A metallic click sounded behind him.
One of the guards turned.
A figure stepped from behind a stone statue in the foyer.
Black coat.
Gloves.
Gun raised.
Noah screamed.
Sylvester moved instantly.
The gun fired.
The bullet struck the marble pillar.
Sylvester threw Noah behind him and charged.
The assassin lunged sideways.
A second shot exploded through the room.
Sylvester grabbed the man's wrist.
They slammed into a table.
The gun skidded across the floor.
The assassin tried to reach inside his coat.
Sylvester struck his arm against the table edge.
Something fell.
A small silver key.
The assassin looked at it.
Then at Sylvester.
And smiled.
"You were never supposed to find the second child."
Before Sylvester could respond, the assassin bit down hard.
A tiny capsule cracked.
His body went limp.
Noah stared.
Sylvester slowly turned toward Evelyn.
"Second child?"
Evelyn's face had lost all color.
Then the mansion lights went out.
And somewhere upstairs, a child's voice whispered:
"Daddy?"
Sylvester froze.
May you like
It was a voice he had never heard before.
But somehow, it sounded exactly like Noah's.
