PART 3 — THE TRUTH NO ONE WANTED
PART 3 — THE TRUTH NO ONE WANTED
The next morning, Michael didn't go to work.
Instead, he reviewed three months of recordings from the baby monitor.
Hour after hour.
Night after night.
A pattern emerged.
Every time Olivia finally soothed Ethan...
Evelyn entered.
Every disagreement started the same way.
A correction.
A criticism.
A quiet insult.
Then the baby cried.
Then Evelyn blamed Olivia for upsetting him.
It happened again.
And again.
And again.
Michael felt sick.
Not because his mother hated Olivia.
Because she needed Olivia to fail.
At noon he called Dr. Rachel Monroe, Ethan's pediatrician.
After reviewing several clips, the doctor spoke carefully.
"I can't diagnose family dynamics."
She paused.
"But I can tell you something else."
"The baby appears calm with his mother."
"The distress begins after repeated interruptions."
Michael closed his eyes.
That was all he needed to hear.
That evening Evelyn packed a suitcase.
"You've chosen her."
Michael shook his head.
"No."
"I chose my son."
"You'll regret this."
"I already regret waiting this long."
Evelyn walked toward the front door before stopping.
"When she leaves you, don't expect me to help."
Olivia quietly answered before Michael could.
"I'm not leaving."
"I'm asking for peace."
For several seconds nobody moved.
Then Evelyn walked out.
The front door closed.
The house became quiet.
Not empty.
Peaceful.
