Chapter 13 - THE NAMESAriana knew everything.

Names.

Bank accounts.

Patients.

Doctors.

People in government.

Celebrities.

Executives.

Judges.

The operation had lasted decades.

The hospital was only one branch.

Blackwood was the archive.

Ariana had escaped once.

She had returned because she wanted to expose them.

Now they had captured her again.

But she had prepared for this.

Before we could reach her, alarms blared.

A hidden message appeared on every monitor.

UPLOAD COMPLETE.

Jonathan stared.

“What did you do?”

I looked at Ariana.

She smiled faintly.

“The files are already out.”

Thousands of documents were being uploaded to servers around the world.

Journalists.

Federal investigators.

News organizations.

Hospitals.

Everything.

Jonathan's face went pale.

“You don't understand what you've done.”

Ariana spoke through the intercom.

“I understand exactly.”

Then the lights went out.

Security doors opened.

The system had been compromised.

Emily and I freed Ariana.

We ran.

Jonathan followed.

He caught us at the final corridor.

He pointed a gun at Ariana.

“Stop.”

I stepped between them.

“Put it down.”

“You think exposing this will save people?”

“It will.”

“No.”

He looked broken.

“It will start a war.”

“The war already started.”

He raised the weapon.

Then Emily stepped forward.

“Dad.”

He froze.

She stared at him.

“You said you saved us.”

Jonathan lowered the gun slightly.

“You did save us,” Emily said.

“But then you became the monster.”

For a moment, his face collapsed.

Then Carter appeared behind him.

He fired.

The bullet struck Jonathan.

He fell.

Carter dropped the weapon.

“I didn't mean
”

Jonathan laughed weakly.

“You still think you're free?”

Then he died.

Carter stared at the body.

“What does that mean?”

I looked at him.

“It means there's someone above him.”

Carter shook his head.

“No.”

I knew.

There had always been someone above him.

Someone who had never appeared in the files.

A hidden administrator.

The person who approved every operation.

Every patient.

Every death.

Then Ariana walked toward the final screen.

She opened one encrypted file.

The name appeared.

I felt my blood freeze.

The administrator was listed as:

DR. SARAH JENKINS.

My name.

My photograph.

My signature.

I stared.

“That isn't me.”

Ariana turned toward me.

“It is.”

“What?”

She whispered:

“You didn't escape the program.”

May you like

My heart stopped.

“You became part of it.”
