Chapter 7 - SingaporeElena landed in Singapore before sunrise.

Elena landed in Singapore before sunrise.

She went directly to the hotel from the photograph.

The room had been booked under the name Adrian Vale.

But Adrian was gone.

Only a note remained.

Roof. 11:00. Come alone.

Elena ignored the last instruction.

Martin's security team surrounded the building.

At exactly 11:00, Elena stepped onto the roof.

Wind moved through the skyscrapers.

A man stood near the edge.

He turned.

Elena forgot how to breathe.

Adrian looked like Richard.

But older.

Harder.

He smiled faintly.

"You're Elena."

"You're my brother."

"Half-brother."

"Why did you disappear?"

Adrian looked away.

"Because Julian found me."

Elena stepped closer.

"What did he want?"

"Proof."

"Of what?"

"That the Vale family trust could be transferred."

Elena frowned.

"It couldn't."

"Not legally."

Adrian laughed.

"Julian didn't care about legal."

He pulled out a file.

"He wanted access to the succession architecture."

"What is that?"

"The hidden mechanism your grandfather created."

Adrian opened the file.

"He knew a hostile spouse might one day gain influence over the family."

"So he created layers of control."

"Exactly."

"Then Julian never could have owned anything."

Adrian looked at her.

"He couldn't."

"Then why did he keep going?"

"Because he found something."

Elena's pulse quickened.

"What?"

Adrian hesitated.

"An exception."

He handed her a document.

Elena read it.

A condition buried within the succession agreement.

If the direct heir voluntarily relinquished control...

the trust could be transferred.

Elena looked up.

"Who could make me relinquish it?"

Adrian smiled sadly.

"Your husband."

Her stomach dropped.

"How?"

"Marriage."

Elena stared.

"If you sign certain documents under marital consent..."

"Julian could transfer the trust?"

"Yes."

Elena's voice hardened.

"Did he ever try?"

Adrian nodded.

"Last year."

"He asked me to sign something."

"I remember."

"You refused."

"I said the documents were too broad."

Elena suddenly understood.

That night had not been about a routine corporate restructuring.

It had been an attempt to seize everything.

"Then why didn't you warn me?"

Adrian looked away.

"Because Julian threatened to kill me."

The wind seemed to disappear.

"He found me five years ago."

Elena stared at him.

"Why didn't he?"

"Because I made a deal."

"What deal?"

"I would disappear."

Elena's face hardened.

"And he left you alone?"

Adrian's expression changed.

"No."

He pointed toward the neighboring building.

A sniper rifle glinted in the distance.

Elena ducked.

A bullet shattered the glass railing.

Martin's security team exploded into motion.

Adrian grabbed Elena's arm.

"Run!"

They reached the stairwell.

Another shot cracked behind them.

Elena's heart pounded.

"Who is shooting?"

Adrian looked at her.

"Julian."

"How do you know?"

"Because there's only one person who wants both of us dead."

They reached the lobby.

Adrian stopped suddenly.

"What?"

He checked his phone.

A message had arrived.

One sentence.

You should have stayed away from Elena.

Adrian showed it to her.

Elena stared.

Then another message appeared.

This one was sent to Elena.

Tell your sister I said hello.

She looked at Adrian.

"Your sister?"

He went pale.

"You have a sister too?"

Adrian nodded slowly.

Then whispered:

"No."

Elena's blood ran cold.

"Then who is she?"

Adrian looked at the message.

"I don't know."

A second photograph arrived.

It showed Elena.

Standing outside the Grand Aurelia.

Taken the night she was thrown into the rain.

Behind her stood a woman watching from the shadows.

Elena zoomed in.

She recognized the face.

Vanessa.

But Vanessa wasn't alone.

The woman beside her was someone Elena had seen before.

May you like

Someone she believed had been dead for twenty years.

Her mother.
