Chapter 10 - The Child He StoleThe revelation shattered everything Elena believed about her marriage.

The revelation shattered everything Elena believed about her marriage.
Her daughter was alive.
Six years old.
And Julian had known.
For years.
He had stolen six years from her.
He had watched Elena grieve a child who was never dead.
Martin traced the video.
It originated from a private server.
The location was somewhere in Europe.
Adrian immediately began tracking financial transfers.
"Found it."
A trust controlled by Julian had paid a private school in Switzerland.
A child's tuition.
The name was false.
But the medical records contained a genetic reference.
Elena's heart hammered.
"Bring her home."
"We will."
"No."
She looked at Martin.
"Bring me to her."
Adrian shook his head.
"It's a trap."
"I don't care."
Elena turned toward him.
"He took my daughter."
Her voice cracked.
"I'm bringing her back."
They traveled to Switzerland.
The school was protected by private security.
But the child was gone.
Only one thing remained.
A red ribbon.
Elena picked it up.
She recognized it immediately.
Her mother had tied identical ribbons in Elena's hair when she was young.
Someone was manipulating every part of her family history.
Then Vanessa appeared.
She stood outside the school gates.
Elena walked toward her.
"Where is my daughter?"
Vanessa's eyes filled with tears.
"I never wanted this."
"You wore my necklace."
Vanessa lowered her head.
"I was told to."
"You helped him."
"I was trapped."
"Where is she?"
Vanessa whispered:
"Julian doesn't have her."
Elena froze.
"What?"
Vanessa looked around.
"Someone else took her."
"Who?"
"Your mother."
Elena felt the world narrow.
"Why?"
"Because Julian wanted the child as leverage."
"And your mother?"
"She wanted the child as a key."
"A key to what?"
Vanessa's face twisted with fear.
"The final vault."
Elena stepped closer.
"What final vault?"
Vanessa shook her head.
"I don't know."
A car exploded across the street.
Glass shattered.
People screamed.
Vanessa grabbed Elena and pulled her down.
A black SUV sped away.
Adrian chased it.
He returned twenty minutes later with a broken phone.
"There was no one inside."
Elena stared at Vanessa.
"You knew too much."
Vanessa began crying.
"I'm sorry."
"Sorry doesn't bring my daughter back."
Vanessa whispered:
"Her name is Lily."
Elena closed her eyes.
Lily.
A name she had never heard.
A child she had never held.
A daughter she had mourned without ever knowing she was alive.
Vanessa pulled out a photograph.
Elena took it.
Lily was smiling.
On her wrist was a bracelet.
A tiny emerald.
Exactly like the necklace Julian had given Vanessa.
Elena looked at it.
Then understood.
The necklace.
The bracelet.
They weren't jewelry.
They were access markers.
Vanessa whispered:
"Julian never gave me the necklace."
Elena looked up.
"Then who did?"
Vanessa swallowed.
"Your mother."
Before Elena could answer, her phone rang.
Julian.
She picked up.
"Where is my daughter?"
Julian's voice was calm.
"Safe."
"What do you want?"
"Come back to Aurelia."
"Why?"
"Because this entire war was never about the resorts."
He paused.
"It's about you."
Elena's eyes hardened.
"What do you want from me?"
Julian whispered:
May you like
"Your signature."
Then the line went dead.
