Chapter 11 - The footage went public at 8:00 a.m.It became the most watched video in the world.

Not because I was famous.

Not because my father owned Sterling.

Because the footage was unbearable to watch.

Diego forcing me outside.

The water.

The fall.

His words.

My screams.

The bracelet warning.

The moment I stopped moving.

And then the emergency helicopter arriving.

Millions of people watched it.

Then millions more.

By noon, the phrase LEARN TO OBEY ME was trending across every major platform.

Diego's image became synonymous with domestic violence and corporate corruption.

Brenna disappeared.

Holloway's offices were raided.

But my father wasn't watching the news.

He was watching the reflection in the glass door.

“You see it?”

I leaned closer.

The reflection showed the patio.

Diego.

Me.

And for half a second, a figure behind the glass.

A woman.

My mother.

I stared.

“When was this?”

“Three minutes before you were pushed.”

“She was there.”

“Yes.”

“She watched.”

“Yes.”

“And left.”

“No.”

I frowned.

“What?”

My father paused the frame.

Zoomed in.

The woman wasn't standing alone.

She was speaking to someone.

A man.

I couldn't see his face.

But I recognized his watch.

Diego's.

I looked at my father.

“That's impossible.”

“Why?”

“Because Diego was in the house.”

My father zoomed further.

The figure's sleeve pulled back slightly.

A scar appeared on the wrist.

Diego had the same scar.

I stared.

“There's something wrong.”

My father nodded.

“That isn't Diego.”

“What?”

“It's his brother.”

I turned.

“Diego has a brother?”

“He was supposed to be dead.”

Another family secret.

Another ghost.

The police reopened old records.

Diego's official birth certificate showed only one child.

But a sealed court file revealed something else.

A second son.

Matteo Calder.

Declared dead at age thirteen.

Yet surveillance footage showed a man matching his description entering Sterling facilities six months earlier.

Matteo had been alive.

And working with my mother.

Then Detective Harris discovered something even worse.

Matteo wasn't just involved in the attack.

He had accessed my medical bracelet weeks before.

He had cloned my digital identity.

He had manipulated the court records.

He had created the Silver Crown Trust.

The conspiracy suddenly had a new center.

Matteo.

We found him that night.

Or rather, he found us.

The power went out.

Again.

This time, the entire estate locked down.

My father reached for a weapon.

“Stay behind me.”

A voice came through the speakers.

“Hello, Elena.”

Matteo.

I recognized it from the recordings.

“Where are you?”

“Everywhere.”

The cameras turned on one by one.

Each showed a different room.

Empty.

Then the nursery.

A crib.

A mobile above it.

And a note.

FOR YOUR DAUGHTER.

My blood froze.

“She isn't here.”

“I know.”

“Then why show me the nursery?”

“Because she will be.”

My father shouted,

“Leave my daughter alone!”

Matteo laughed.

“You're still pretending this is about Elena.”

“What do you want?”

“Your confession.”

My father went still.

“What confession?”

“The truth about my mother.”

He looked at me.

Then at the cameras.

Matteo continued.

“You told Elena that her mother betrayed you.”

My father said nothing.

“Tell her the whole truth.”

Silence.

I looked at my father.

“What is he talking about?”

“Don't listen to him.”

Matteo laughed.

“Ask your father where he was the night Isabella disappeared.”

My father closed his eyes.

I whispered,

“Dad?”

He didn't answer.

Matteo continued.

“He didn't lose your mother.”

My father whispered,

“I made a choice.”

The room went silent.

“What choice?”

“My mother had arranged to leave.”

“And?”

“I stopped her.”

I stared.

“You stopped her?”

“She wanted to take you.”

My heart broke.

“You kept me from her?”

“She was dangerous.”

“You lied to me my entire life.”

“I protected you.”

“You destroyed my family.”

Matteo's voice returned.

“She was willing to tell you everything.”

My father looked at the camera.

“And you were willing to kill her.”

Silence.

Then Matteo said,

“Not yet.”

The cameras went black.

My father looked at me.

“I am sorry.”

Before I could answer, Detective Harris ran into the room.

“We found Matteo's location.”

My father stood.

“Where?”

She looked at me.

“Your mother's old house.”

The house where she supposedly died.

The house that had been abandoned for twenty-three years.

But the police had just found a light on inside.

And someone was standing behind the upstairs window.

May you like

A woman.

Watching us.
