His mother stood in the doorway.
Elena Vance.

She entered the farmhouse as if she owned it.
Maya stepped in front of Lily.
Elena looked at the child.
“So that's the heir.”
“No.”
David's voice was stronger now.
“She is my daughter.”
Elena smiled.
“Exactly.”
David stared.
“You let Dad do all of this.”
“No.”
“You funded it.”
“Yes.”
“You knew about Lily.”
“Yes.”
Maya's hands clenched.
“You ordered her poisoning.”
Elena shook her head.
“No.”
David looked confused.
“Then who?”
Elena sat down.
“Arthur.”
“He said you controlled Project Hush.”
“I did.”
“For years.”
“Yes.”
“Then why deny it?”
“Because I never ordered Lily's death.”
Maya stared.
Elena opened the ledger.
“Arthur wanted control.”
“I wanted containment.”
“You wanted to save the organization?”
“No.”
Elena looked at David.
“I wanted to destroy it.”
Silence.
She explained.
Thomas discovered Project Hush and came to her.
He asked her to help.
She agreed.
But Arthur learned what Thomas was doing.
He staged Thomas's death.
Then he took control.
Elena disappeared.
Thomas built the trust.
And the plan continued.
“You sacrificed us.”
David whispered.
“I protected you.”
“You abandoned me.”
Elena's expression softened.
“For years, I watched you from a distance.”
“Why?”
“Because Arthur believed killing you would activate the trust.”
David froze.
“So you stayed away to keep me alive.”
“Yes.”
Maya looked at her.
“And Lily?”
Elena's eyes filled with tears.
“She was the one thing none of us expected.”
David sat beside her.
“What happens now?”
Elena answered,
“The broadcast goes live in six hours.”
“Can it be stopped?”
“Yes.”
“By whom?”
Elena looked toward Lily.
“The person who controls the trust.”
David's heart sank.
“You mean Lily.”
Elena nodded.
“Her biometric signature is required.”
Maya looked terrified.
“She is seven.”
“Exactly.”
The front door suddenly exploded.
Gunfire filled the farmhouse.
Federal agents screamed.
David grabbed Lily.
Maya dropped behind a table.
Elena pulled a hidden weapon from beneath her coat.
She fired twice.
The attackers retreated.
Then a voice echoed outside.
“Hand over Lily.”
David recognized it.
Arthur.
He looked at Maya.
“Take her.”
Maya grabbed Lily and ran.
Elena remained behind.
David followed.
The basement door slammed.
They descended into darkness.
At the bottom was a steel vault.
Elena entered a code.
The door opened.
Inside was a server.
A single screen.
TRUST TRANSFER.
BENEFICIARY: LILY VANCE.
Elena looked at David.
“Once you activate it, there is no going back.”
David nodded.
“We have no choice.”
Maya stood beside him.
David placed his hand on the scanner.
The system rejected him.
ACCESS DENIED.
Elena smiled.
“Not you.”
She looked at Lily.
Maya carried her forward.
The system scanned Lily's hand.
ACCESS GRANTED.
The servers came alive.
Across the world, Project Hush files began uploading.
Arthur's network began collapsing.
Politicians panicked.
Banks froze.
Phones rang.
Governments activated emergency protocols.
Then the vault door began shaking.
Arthur had found them.
Elena looked at David.
“It's time.”
David turned toward the door.
“Time for what?”
Elena smiled.
“To make him regret touching your daughter.”
The vault door exploded inward.
Arthur stood in the smoke.
Gun raised.
But behind him stood federal agents.
And at the center was Julianne.
Crying.
Blood on her shirt.
She pointed at Arthur.
“He ordered everything.”
David stared.
Julianne whispered,
“Even Lily.”
Arthur turned.
“You traitorous little…”
Federal agents tackled him.
The gun hit the floor.
Maya held Lily.
David looked at Arthur.
The man who had destroyed his family was finally in chains.
Arthur smiled.
“You think you've won?”
David stepped closer.
“No.”
Arthur laughed.
“You haven't.”
David looked toward the server.
“Yes.”
He smiled.
“Because everyone knows now.”
Arthur's face changed.
The broadcast reached 100%.
