Chapter 9 - The Bloodline They Tried to EraseNo one spoke.

Alessandra couldn't hear the room anymore.
She stared at the DNA report.
“This is fake.”
Adrian smiled.
“You can order another test.”
“I will.”
“Please do.”
That confidence frightened her.
She snatched the report.
Caleb's father's name had been blacked out.
Only the relationship remained.
ORIGINAL ORSINI BLOODLINE.
Alessandra looked at Francesca.
“You knew?”
Her mother didn't answer.
“MOM.”
Francesca closed her eyes.
“I knew.”
Alessandra's voice broke.
“For four years?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because if the council knew Caleb carried the original line, they would use him.”
“So you let them hurt him?”
Francesca whispered:
“I thought cruelty would keep him unnoticed.”
Alessandra recoiled.
“You thought making my child suffer would protect him?”
Francesca said nothing.
Mason suddenly walked forward.
“Grandma lied.”
Everyone looked at him.
He was crying.
“She told me Caleb wasn't important.”
Alessandra closed her eyes.
Mason continued.
“She said I had to be better than him.”
Bianca pulled him close.
Adrian watched them all.
Then Elias stepped toward him.
“You knew.”
“Yes.”
“You knew Caleb's identity.”
“Yes.”
“So why didn't you kill him?”
Adrian laughed softly.
“Because I don't want him dead.”
“Then what do you want?”
“The same thing your grandmother wanted.”
Adrian looked at Francesca.
“Control.”
Alessandra understood.
The real battle wasn't about Mason.
It was about Caleb.
Whoever controlled Caleb controlled the original bloodline.
And whoever controlled the bloodline controlled the family's assets.
Adrian placed another document on the table.
“A trust was created before your father died.”
“For Caleb?”
“Yes.”
Alessandra's hands shook.
“How much?”
Adrian's smile disappeared.
“Enough to buy half the companies your family owns.”
The room exploded with shouting.
Elders demanded explanations.
Vincent tried to take the papers.
Alessandra grabbed them first.
She read every page.
Her father had established a trust in Caleb's name.
The money could not be accessed by Francesca.
Not by Vincent.
Not by Mason.
Not by anyone.
Only Caleb, upon reaching adulthood.
Unless the family council declared him legally unfit.
And there was one additional condition.
If Caleb were harmed by a family member, control of the trust would immediately transfer to an independent trustee.
Alessandra looked at Adrian.
“You've been trying to trigger the clause.”
“No.”
“Then why expose this now?”
“Because the clause has already been triggered.”
Silence.
Adrian looked at Caleb's bruised wrist.
“Someone in this family harmed him.”
Alessandra understood.
The chair.
The rope.
The beating.
This entire nightmare might have been engineered.
Not to kill Caleb.
To force the trust into the hands of someone else.
She looked at Francesca.
“Who planned the attack?”
Francesca's face was pale.
“I didn't.”
Vincent stepped backward.
Adrian looked at him.
Then at Bianca.
Then at Mason.
Nobody moved.
Finally, Caleb whispered:
“Mommy.”
“What?”
“I remember.”
Alessandra crouched beside him.
“Remember what?”
He pointed toward Vincent.
“Daddy said the chair would make Grandma happy.”
Alessandra turned.
Vincent went white.
May you like
And Adrian smiled.
“Now we're getting somewhere.”
