CHAPTER 3: THE NAME HE NEVER SAID OUT LOUD

CHAPTER 3: THE NAME HE NEVER SAID OUT LOUD

The father walked outside alone.

No one stopped him.

Even security didn’t follow.

The courtyard was empty except for the boy.

Wind moved gently through the trees, too calm for what was happening.

The boy stood with his hands in his pockets.

Still.

Patient.

“You shouldn’t be here,” the father said.

The boy tilted his head.

“I’ve always been here.”

A long silence stretched between them.

Then the father’s voice dropped.

“…What do you want?”

For the first time, the boy’s expression softened.

Not into warmth.

Into something older.

“He doesn’t remember me,” the boy said quietly.

The father narrowed his eyes.

“Who?”

The boy looked down for a moment.

Then back up.

“You.”

That word hit harder than anything before it.

The courtyard felt colder.

The boy took a small step forward.

“I was there before you changed everything. Before you chose silence over truth.”

The father’s throat tightened.

Memories flickered—fast, fragmented—hospital lights, paperwork, a decision made too quickly, a file closed too permanently.

“No…” the father whispered.

The boy nodded slightly.

“Yes.”

Behind them, the classroom door creaked open.

The girl stood there, holding the teacher’s hand.

Still scared.

Still watching.

The boy looked at her gently.

“I didn’t hurt you,” he said.

Then, to the father:

“But someone like you did.”

A final silence.

Heavy.

Absolute.

The father took one step forward—

But the boy was already fading.

Not running.

Not disappearing dramatically.

Just… becoming less certain in space.

Like he was never fully there.

The last thing he said lingered in the air:

“You finally looked at her. That’s why I came.”

And then—

He was gone.

Only the folded paper remained on the ground.

This time, it was blank.

ENDING

The father stood in the empty courtyard for a long time.

No answers came.

Only the realization that whatever had entered his daughter’s classroom…

May you like

Wasn’t finished with him.

Not even close.
