Chapter 2: The Woman Who Disappeared
Chapter 1: The Perfect Victim
The moment the police officers stepped through the front door, Doña Victoria collapsed dramatically into their arms.
“Thank God you’re here!” she cried. “My son has just returned from overseas, and this poor girl has completely manipulated him! She’s been unstable for months. She threatened me. She threatened the baby!”
Her sobs echoed through the house.
Several neighbors had already gathered outside, watching through windows and partially opened doors.
One officer looked uncertain.
Another glanced at the stack of documents on the table.
Alejandro remained perfectly calm.
“Officer,” he said, “before anyone says another word, please secure the evidence.”
The officers approached the dining table.
The forged military notice.
The fake medical evaluations.
The custody paperwork.
The still-heated iron.
The room grew silent.
Doña Victoria immediately changed tactics.
“Those papers belong to Elena,” she said. “I found them hidden in her room. I was trying to help her.”
I stared at her in disbelief.
For months she had isolated me.
She intercepted my mail.
Canceled my appointments.
Controlled every conversation.
And now she was trying to erase it all.
Then one of the officers carefully picked up the iron.
“Ma'am,” he asked, “can you explain why this was plugged in and positioned directly beside the victim?”
For the first time, Victoria hesitated.
Only for a second.
But everyone saw it.
Alejandro slowly reached into his pocket.
“I can explain something else.”
He placed his phone on the table.
Then he pressed play.
A voice filled the kitchen.
Victoria’s voice.
Clear.
Cold.
Cruel.
“Sign the custody papers or this baby will suffer for it.”
The recording continued.
Every threat.
Every lie.
Every manipulation.
Every word.
The color drained from Victoria’s face.
The officers exchanged looks.
One immediately stepped forward.
“Ma'am, please place your hands where we can see them.”
The performance was over.
For the first time in her life, nobody believed her tears.
And she knew it.
That evening, Victoria was escorted out of the house in handcuffs.
But as she passed Alejandro, she smiled.
Not with fear.
Not with regret.
With confidence.
“Ask your father about Isabella.”
Then she climbed into the police car.

And drove away.
