Chapter 2: The Truth She Never Told
Chapter 2: The Truth She Never Told
That evening Daniel sat alone in his downtown penthouse.
The city lights blurred beyond the glass walls while one question repeated inside his head.
Why?
Why would Emma hide the pregnancy?
Why would she disappear?
Why would she raise three boys without telling him?
He searched through old emails.
Old photographs.
Old court documents.
Everything suddenly looked different.
At midnight his phone rang.
It was Michael.
His former attorney.
"Daniel... there's something I've needed to tell you for years."
Daniel's chest tightened.
"What is it?"
Michael exhaled heavily.
"I never represented your interests."
Silence.
"What?"
"Your mother hired me before the divorce."
Daniel slowly stood.
"What are you talking about?"
Michael continued.
"Emma tried to tell you she was pregnant."
Daniel felt dizzy.
"That's impossible."
"I saw the medical records."
"You told me she wanted money."
"I was told to."
Daniel's breathing became uneven.
"My mother paid you?"
"...Yes."
Michael's voice cracked with shame.
"She said a baby would ruin the merger with the Ashford family."
Pieces of forgotten memories exploded inside Daniel's mind.
His mother's insistence that Emma leave immediately.
The divorce papers delivered overnight.
His phone mysteriously changing numbers.
The letters Emma claimed she had sent but he never received.
Every missing piece suddenly fit together.
His own mother had orchestrated everything.
Not because Emma had betrayed him.
Because Emma was carrying the heir she wanted to erase.
Daniel whispered into the darkness,
May you like
"My God..."
He had spent five years hating the only woman who had ever truly loved him.
