Chapter 2: The Truth Buried for Thirty Years

The following day, Richard arranged a private meeting with Emily.

DNA tests were conducted.

The waiting period felt endless.

Victoria grew increasingly irritated.

"This girl is manipulating you," she insisted. "Don't throw away our lives because of an old story."

But Richard couldn't ignore the feeling in his heart.

Emily never asked for money.

She never requested favors.

She simply wanted answers.

Three days later, the results arrived.

Richard opened the envelope with trembling hands.

He read the report once.

Then twice.

Tears filled his eyes.

Emily wasn't his daughter.

She was his sister.

Thirty years ago, Nurse Margaret had discovered corruption surrounding the accident. Believing powerful relatives intended to seize the family's inheritance by ensuring the infant disappeared permanently, she fled with the baby to protect her.

Margaret raised Emily as her own granddaughter, hiding the truth to keep her safe.

Before her death, she finally confessed everything and handed Emily the photograph.

Emily stared at Richard in disbelief.

"I spent my whole life wondering why I never looked like anyone around me," she whispered.

Richard embraced her.

"You were never abandoned," he said through tears. "We never stopped loving you. We just lost you."

Outside the office, Victoria listened from the hallway.

Instead of relief, anger consumed her.

If Emily became part of the Langston family, Richard's attention, affection, and eventually part of the family legacy would shift.

Victoria realized with horror that her jealousy had almost destroyed the reunion of two siblings separated by fate.
