Chapter 3: One Employee Passed
As the board members nervously reviewed the inspection documents, Ethan suddenly closed the folder.
"There is one employee I want to meet."
The managers looked confused.
"Her name is Sofia."
A young housekeeper stepped out from the back hallway, still wearing simple gray housekeeping clothes. She looked terrified, convinced she had done something wrong.
Ethan smiled for the first time all day.
"This morning," he said, "before my inspection officially began, I intentionally dropped this."
He held up an expensive leather wallet.
"It contained two thousand dollars in cash."
The executives exchanged worried looks.
Sofia quietly lowered her eyes.
"I found it," she admitted. "I turned it in to Lost and Found."
Ethan nodded.
"You also offered me breakfast from your own lunch because you thought I looked hungry."
Sofia blushed.
"I just... didn't want anyone to go without eating."
Ethan looked toward the board.
"She never knew who I was."
Then he turned back to Sofia.
"You treated a stranger with kindness when there was nothing to gain."
The board members remained silent.
Ethan handed Daniel a single page.
"My recommendation is simple."
He pointed toward Sofia.
"Promote her."
The executives immediately agreed.

The receptionist quietly wiped away tears.
For the first time, she realized exactly what the inspection had actually measured.
