CHAPTER 3 — WHAT WAS ALWAYS YOURS

Sam tried to refuse.

But people like that man didn’t ask twice.

They simply opened doors.

Days later, the burger stand was gone.

In its place: a restored building carrying Sam’s name.

But Sam didn’t feel rich.

He felt exposed.

Because now everyone looked at him differently.

One evening, the man returned alone.

No cars.

No guards.

Just him.

He stood beside Sam quietly.

“You could have taken everything and disappeared,” Sam said.

The man nodded.

“I thought about it.”

A long pause.

“But I realized something.”

Sam waited.

The man looked at the horizon.

“You didn’t just give me a meal.”

“You gave me a reason not to become something I would regret.”

Sam swallowed hard.

“So what now?”

The man smiled faintly.

“Now you don’t survive anymore.”

“You live.”

He turned to leave, then stopped.

Without looking back, he added:

“And Sam…”

May you like

“You were never just a burger stand owner.”

“You were the beginning of everything.”
