Chapter 2 – The Name Nobody Expected The scream shattered the silence. “THAT'S HIM!” Every head turned toward the man pushing through the crowd. Gray suit. Silver hair. Breathless. It was Richard Lawson, the chairman of Lawson National Bank. The same man whose portrait hung in every branch across the country. The elegant employee immediately stepped away from her computer. “Mr. Lawson!” The security guard stood at attention. Customers lowered their phones, unsure what was happening. Richard didn't look at any of them. His eyes were fixed entirely on the little boy. For a long moment, he simply stared. As if he had seen a ghost. Then his gaze fell to the worn envelope still lying on the marble counter. His hands began to shake. “Where...” he whispered. “...where did you get that?” The boy looked up calmly. “My mom told me to bring it here if anything ever happened to her.” The words landed like a hammer. Richard slowly opened the envelope. Inside was a single handwritten letter. A faded birth certificate. And an old photograph. The picture showed a much younger Richard holding a newborn baby outside a hospital. Across the back, written in blue ink: For the day our son comes home. Richard's knees nearly gave out. “He's...” His voice broke. “He's my grandson.” Gasps echoed through the lobby. The employee turned completely white. “No... that's impossible.” Richard looked directly at her. “It isn't.” He gently placed one trembling hand on the boy's shoulder. “What is your name?” “Ethan.” “And your mother?” “Emily Lawson.” Richard closed his eyes. His daughter. The daughter everyone believed had disappeared eight years ago. / Chapter 1 / 2 61

Chapter 3 – The Truth Hidden for Eight Years

Richard took Ethan into his private office.

No cameras.

No employees.

Only silence.

He unfolded the letter with trembling hands.

Emily's handwriting was unmistakable.

Dad,

If Ethan is standing in front of you, it means I couldn't protect him anymore.

Please don't blame yourself.

You never abandoned me.

They made you believe I ran away.

Victor forged my signature.

He stole my inheritance.

When I refused to marry the man he chose, he locked me away financially and told everyone I had disappeared.

I raised Ethan alone because I couldn't let them use him too.

Trust no one inside the company.

Especially not Victor.

Richard's hands shook so violently he nearly dropped the letter.

Victor.

His own younger brother.

The man he had trusted to help run the family empire.

The man who had spent years convincing him that Emily had rejected the family forever.

Richard immediately ordered an internal investigation.

Within hours, decades of hidden financial records surfaced.

Fake transfers.

Forged documents.

Destroyed legal files.

Millions stolen.

Everything pointed to Victor.

By sunset, federal investigators arrived at corporate headquarters.

Victor attempted to leave through the underground parking garage.

He was arrested before reaching his car.

As officers escorted him away in handcuffs, he looked directly at Richard.

“I did it to save the company.”

Richard answered only once.

“No.”

“You did it because greed was worth more to you than family.”

The prison doors closed behind Victor before midnight.
