Chapter 2: The Men Who Came Back
Chapter 2: The Men Who Came Back
Silence swallowed the lobby.
The robber slowly lowered his knife.
"You're lying."
The boy shook his head.
"My dad designed emergency systems after another robbery... years ago."
The blinking red light changed.
Blue.
Then white.
Hidden steel barriers slid quietly behind every exit.
The robbers were trapped.
One of them reached for the front doors.
Locked.
Another ran toward the employee hallway.
Locked.
Panic replaced confidence.
"What is this?"
The computer spoke again.
"Law enforcement notified. Facial recognition recording in progress."
The robbers looked toward the cameras.
Every mask.
Every movement.
Every fingerprint.
Captured.
The older robber suddenly grabbed the boy.
"If these doors don't open, the kid dies."
Gasps filled the room.
The boy didn't struggle.
He simply stared into the man's eyes.
"My dad said bad people always make the same mistake."
"What mistake?"
"They stop thinking."
At that exact moment...
The robber heard helicopters.
Not police.
Military.
The front glass reflected black helicopters circling overhead.
Outside, armored vehicles surrounded the building from every direction.
The robber's confidence vanished.
"Who... who is your father?"
The boy answered quietly.
"He retired."
May you like
A pause.
"But his friends didn't."
