CHAPTER 3 — THE MAN WHO THOUGHT HE WAS UNTOUCHABLE
CHAPTER 3 — THE MAN WHO THOUGHT HE WAS UNTOUCHABLE
Garrett didn't panic.
Men like Garrett rarely did.
They calculated.
They manipulated.
When two police officers arrived at the hospital, he greeted them with perfect confidence.
"My wife had an unfortunate accident."
One officer nodded politely.
The other remained silent.
Then the forensic nurse walked over carrying photographs.
Medical reports.
Measurements of bruises.
Time estimates.
Patterns consistent with repeated abuse.
Garrett's smile weakened.
The younger officer asked calmly,
"Sir, may we speak privately?"
Garrett followed them into a consultation room.
He expected routine questions.
Instead...
They placed Elena's X-rays on the table.
"The fracture was caused by rotational force."
Another folder appeared.
Photographs taken over the past hour.
Older bruises in different stages of healing.
Then Daniel entered.
Without saying a word, he placed his phone on the table.
"I never deleted these."
Garrett frowned.
The screen displayed pictures taken nearly three years earlier.
Small bruises Elena had tried to hide during a family barbecue.
Daniel had secretly photographed them because he feared exactly this day.
The timestamps were undeniable.
Years of injuries.
Years of lies.
Garrett's confidence finally cracked.
He leaned back.
"This is ridiculous."
"No..."
the detective replied quietly.
"This is a pattern."
Twenty minutes later...
Garrett Parker was escorted through the hospital lobby in handcuffs.
Employees stopped walking.
Patients looked up.
Nobody cheered.
Justice is rarely loud.
As he passed the radiology department, Garrett turned toward Elena.
She wasn't crying anymore.
She simply watched.
Calm.
May you like
Free.
For the first time in eight years.
